INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL

It is necessary to replace it at the recommended intervals, more often under dusty driving conditions. Refer to " PERIODIC MAINTENANCE ".

INSPECTION

Note. Before starting engine, park vehicle on a level surface and check the engine oil level. If engine is already started, stop it and allow 10 minutes before checking.

Scheme 5

Scheme 5: INSPECTION
  1. Pull out oil level gauge and wipe it clean.
  2. Insert oil level gauge and make sure the engine oil level is within the range (A) as shown.
  3. If it is out of range, adjust it. see scheme 10: Identifying Engine Oil Level Range

INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

  1. Check the engine oil level. Refer to " «ENGINE OIL LEVEL»(ref-273042-S39761062122007113000000) ".
  2. Start engine, and make sure there is no leaks of engine oil.
  3. Stop engine and wait for 10 minutes.
  4. Check the engine oil level and adjust engine oil. Refer to " «ENGINE OIL LEVEL»(ref-273042-S39761062122007113000000) ".

Scheme 6: Changing Spark Plugs
  1. Remove intake manifold. Refer to " «INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-273041-S04699952552007113000000) ".
  2. Remove ignition coil. Refer to " «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-273041-S29335100022007113000000) " CAUTION: Handle ignition coil carefully and avoid impacts. Never disassemble.
  3. Remove spark plug using suitable tool. CAUTION: Never drop or shock it. see scheme 17: Identifying Spark Plug Tool

Scheme 18: Precaution For - Do Not Adjusting Spark Plug Gap

Scheme 8

Scheme 19: Precaution For - Never Use Wire Brush For Cleaning Spark Plug

Scheme 9

Scheme 9: INSTALLATION
  1. Install rocker cover gasket to rocker cover.
  2. Install rocker cover. Tighten bolts in two steps separately in numerical order as shown. 1st step: 1.96 N.m (0.20 kg-m, 17 in-lb) 2nd step: 8.33 N.m (0.85 kg-m, 73 in-lb) <= Engine front CAUTION: Check if rocker cover gasket is not dropped from the installation groove of rocker cover. (Scheme 7): Loosening Bolts In Sequence
  3. Install spark plug using suitable tool. Plug type: Platinum tipped Make: NGK Part number: PLZKAR6A-11 Gap (nominal): 1.1 mm (0.043 in) CAUTION: Never drop or shock it. (Scheme 8): Identifying Spark Plug Tool
  4. Install ignition coil. CAUTION: Handle it carefully and avoid impacts. Never disassemble.
  5. Install intake manifold. Refer to " «INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-273041-S04699952552007113000000) ".
  1. Do not use a wire brush for cleaning the spark plugs. Replace as necessary. see scheme 34: Precaution For - Never Use Wire Brush For Cleaning Spark Plug
  2. If plug is covered with carbon, a spark plug cleaner may be used. Cleaner air pressure: less than 588 kPa (6 kg/cm 2, 85 psi) Cleaning time: less than 20 seconds
  3. Checking and adjusting plug gap is not required between change intervals. If the gap is out of specification, replace the spark plug. Gap (nominal): 1.1 mm (0.043 in) see scheme 35: Precaution For - Do Not Adjusting Spark Plug Gap
