CVT CONTROL SYSTEM: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve

  1. The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is installed to control valve.
  2. The torque converter clutch solenoid valve controls the torque converter clutch control valve. For information about the torque converter clutch control valve, refer to " «MECHANICAL SYSTEM: COMPONENT DESCRIPTION»(ref-621391-S31557421002014061000000) ".
  3. The torque converter clutch solenoid valve utilizes a linear solenoid valve [N/L (normal low) type]. NOTE: The principle of the linear solenoid valve utilizes the fact that the force pressing on the valve spool installed inside the coil increases nearly in proportion to the current. This allows it to produce a fluid pressure that is proportional to this pressing force. The N/L (normal low) type does not produce hydraulic control when the coil is not energized.

TORQUE CONVERTER (WITH LOCK-UP FUNCTION)

In the same way as a conventional A/T, the torque converter is a system that increases the engine torque and transmits the torque to the transaxle. A symmetrical 3-element, 1-stage, 2-phase type is used here.

TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH AND SELECT CONTROL VALVE CONTROL

Lock-up Released

In the lock-up released state, the torque converter clutch control valve is set into the unlocked state by the torque converter clutch solenoid valve and the lock-up apply pressure is drained.

In this way, the torque converter clutch piston is not coupled.

Lock-up Applied

In the lock-up applied state, the torque converter clutch control valve is set into the locked state by the torque converter clutch solenoid valve and lock-up apply pressure is generated.

In this way, the torque converter clutch piston is pressed and coupled.

Select Control

When shifting between "N" ("P") ==> "D" ("R"), optimize the operating pressure on the basis of the throttle position, the engine speed, and the secondary pulley (output) revolution speed to lessen the shift shock.

  1. To select the gear ratio that can give the driving force to meet driver's intent or vehicle situation, the vehicle driving condition such as vehicle speed or accelerator pedal position is detected and the most appropriate gear ratio is selected and the shifting method before reaching the speed is determined. The information is output to the primary pressure solenoid valve to control the line pressure input/output to the primary pulley, to determine the primary pulley (movable pulley) position and to control the gear position.
  2. The gear ratio is set for each position separately.
