Note. Steps 1-3 are for A/T models. For M/T models, go to step 4.
Scheme 51
- Check Power Circuit Turn ignition off. Place gear selector in Park or Neutral position. Disconnect ECM wiring harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal No. 22 and body ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
- Check Input Signal Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect A/T control unit wiring harness connector. Check continuity between ECM connector terminal No. 22 and A/T control unit terminal No. 13 (Red/Green). (Scheme 51) If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors between ECM and A/T control unit as necessary.
- Check Component Ensure A/T control unit is not damaged or contaminated. Check A/T control unit and ECM harness connectors for damage, corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair if necessary. If no problems are found, replace A/T control unit. NOTE: Steps 4-6 are for M/T models. For A/T models, go to step 1.
- Check Ground Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect neutral position switch wiring harness connector. (Scheme 52) Check continuity between connector terminal "a" (Black wire) and body ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
- Check Input Signal Circuit Leave ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check continuity between switch connector terminal "b" (Green/Orange wire) and ECM harness connector terminal No. 22. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair harness or connectors as necessary.
- Check Component Ensure neutral position switch is not damaged or contaminated. Check neutral position switch and ECM harness connectors for damage, corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair if necessary. If no problems are found, replace neutral position switch.
