DTC P0340 - CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR Nissan 240SX S14

  1. Check Power Supply Turn ignition off. Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 29) Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "b" (Black/White wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair wiring harness and/or connector as necessary.
  2. Check Input Signal Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Ensure continuity exists between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "c" (Black wire) and ECM connector terminals No. 41 and 45 (180 degree signal), and between CMP terminal "d" (White wire) and ECM connector terminals No. 40 and 44 (one degree signal). (Scheme 30) If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair wiring harness or connectors as necessary.
  3. Check Component Inspect CMP sensor signal plate for damage or contamination. Check CMP and ECM harness connectors for damage, corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair if necessary. If no problems are found, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect all components. Start engine and allow to idle. Set voltmeter on AC voltage scale. Measure voltage between ground and CMP harness connector terminals "3" and "4 (Scheme 31) Actual voltage should fluctuate 0.0-5.4 volts, however, voltmeter will indicate approximately 2.7 volts. If voltage is as specified, testing is complete. If voltage is not as specified, replace distributor.
