DTC P0340 - CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR Nissan 200SX S14

  1. Check Ground Circuit Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector from distributor. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 6 (Black wire) and ground. If no continuity exists, repair open in Black wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  2. Check Power Supply Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 5 (White/Red wire) and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, repair fault in White/Red wire as required.
  3. Check Input Signal Circuit Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 4 and ECM harness connector terminals No. 41 and 45 (Black/White wire). If no continuity exists, repair open in Black/White wire. If continuity exists, check continuity between CMP harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector terminals No. 40 and 44 (Blue wire). If no continuity exists, repair open in Blue wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  4. Check Component Inspect CMP sensor signal plate for damage or contamination. Check CMP and ECM harness connectors for damage, corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair if necessary. If no problems are found, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect all components. Start engine and allow to idle. Set voltmeter on AC voltage scale. Measure voltage between ground and CMP harness connector terminals "3" and "4" (Scheme 10) Actual voltage should fluctuate 0.0-5.4 volts, however, voltmeter will indicate approximately 2.7 volts. If voltage is as specified, testing is complete. If voltage is not as specified, replace distributor.
