DTC B2204: Coding data mismatch Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

DTC B2204: Coding data mismatch

CAUTIONWhen the DTC B2204 is set, be sure to diagnose the CAN bus line. When replacing the ECU, always check that the communication circuit is normal.

If the vehicle information data transmitted from the ETACS-ECU via the CAN bus lines is different from that registered in the KOS-ECU, the KOS-ECU sets DTC No. B2204.

KOS-ECU determines that the abnormality is present when the vehicle information registered in it does not match the vehicle information on the CAN bus lines.

  1. Malfunction of CAN bus line
  2. Malfunction of KOS-ECU
  3. Malfunction of ETACS-ECU

Required Special Tools

  1. MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly) MB991824: Vehicles Communication Interface (V.C.I.) MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A (Vehicles with CAN communication system)
  1. STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line. CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (MB991958), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (MB991958). Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Diagnose the CAN bus line. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the CAN bus line found to be normal? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: Repair the CAN bus line. (Refer to «DIAGNOSIS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/communication-devices/#controller-area-network-can-except-lancer-evolution__diagnosis) ).
  2. STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, read the ETACS-ECU diagnostic trouble code Check if a coding-related DTC is set in the ETACS-ECU. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Troubleshoot the ETACS (Refer to «DIAGNOSIS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/communication-devices/#electronic-time-and-alarm-control-system-etacs-except-lancer-evolution__diagnostic-trouble-code-chart) .). Then go to Step 3. NO: Go to Step 3.
  3. STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the WCM. Erase the DTC. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position. Check if DTC is set. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace KOS-ECU and register the ID codes. (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION JUDGMENT TABLE»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-operation-system-kos-except-lancer-evolution__id-codes-registration-judgment-table) .) NO: The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to «HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/hoistjack/#general-information-except-lancer-evolution__how-to-cope-with-intermittent-malfunctions) ).

KOS-ECU sets DTC B2206 when chassis number registered in it and VIN that has been transmitted on the CAN bus do not match.

KOS-ECU determines that the abnormality is present when VIN registered in it and the one that has been transmitted on the CAN bus do not match.

  1. Malfunction of KOS-ECU (KOS-ECU being registered to another vehicle)
  2. Malfunction of ECM (VIN registered in ECM unmatched)

Required Special Tools

  1. MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly) MB991824: Vehicles Communication Interface (V.C.I.) MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A (Vehicles with CAN communication system)
  1. STEP 1. Check the VIN registered in the engine control module and the VIN of the vehicle. Check if the VIN registered in the engine control module matches with the VIN of the vehicle. On the system selection screen of the M.U.T.-III, select "MFI/GDI/Diesel". Select "Coding." Select "VIN Information." Compare with the VIN of the vehicle. Q: Does the VIN of the engine control module match with the VIN of the vehicle? YES: Go to Step 2. NO: Write the VIN to the engine control module. [Refer to «HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/hoistjack/#general-information-except-lancer-evolution__how-to-perform-vehicle-identification-number) ]. Record VIN and go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the KOS-ECU. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace KOS-ECU and register the ID codes (Refer to «ID CODES REGISTRATION JUDGMENT TABLE»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-operation-system-kos-except-lancer-evolution__id-codes-registration-judgment-table) ). After registering the ID codes, go to Step 3. NO: The procedure is complete.
  3. STEP 3. Recheck for diagnostic trouble code. Check again if the DTC is set to the KOS-ECU. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Check if the DTC is set. Q: Is the DTC set? YES: Replace the engine control module and record the VIN [Refer to «HOW TO PERFORM VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) WRITING»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/x-2007-2016/remont/hoistjack/#general-information-except-lancer-evolution__how-to-perform-vehicle-identification-number) ]. NO: The procedure is complete.
