COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING

CAUTIONDO NOT use alcohol or methanol anti-freeze or any engine coolants mixed with alcohol or methanol anti-freeze. The use of an improper anti-freeze can cause corrosion of the aluminum components.
  1. Using LLC Changer (MB991871), refill cooling system with appropriate mixture between 30-60% anti-freeze (depending on weather conditions). (Scheme 1) Typically a solution of 50% anti-freeze and 50% distilled water is sufficient for most areas. A solution of 50% anti-freeze and 50% water has a freezing point of -32.8°F (-31°C).
  2. Reinstall the radiator cap.
  3. Start the engine and let it warm up until the thermostat opens.
  4. After repeatedly revving the engine up to 3000 RPM several times. Then shut off the engine.
  5. Remove the radiator cap after engine has become cold, completely fill the radiator with coolant. Reinstall the cap.
  6. Ensure coolant in the reserve tank is between the FULL and LOW marks. Add coolant if necessary.

Using Scan Tool (Frequency)

CAUTIONTo prevent damage, always turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position before connecting or disconnecting Scan Tool (MB991958).
  1. Connect Belt Tension Meter Set (MB991668) to Scan Tool (MB991958). (Scheme 2)
  2. Connect Scan Tool (MB991958) to the Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 2)
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and select BELT TENSION MEASUREMENT from the menu screen on Scan Tool (MB991958).
  4. Hold Microphone (part of Belt Drive Meter Set) (MB991668) near the center of the drive belt between the pulleys away from the rear surface of the belt and perpendicular to the belt (no more then 15 degrees in either direction). (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 8).
  5. Gently tap the middle of the belt between the pulleys with your finger, and check that the vibration frequency of the belt is within specification. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 8). See «DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/viii-2003-2005/remont/accessory-drive-belts/#specifications-drive-belt-routing-except-evolution-sportback) table.

DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS

Using Tension Gauge

Use a belt tension gauge to check that the belt tension is within specification. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 8).

Scheme 4: Using Tension Gauge

Measuring Belt Deflection

Apply approximately 22 lbs. (100 N) of force to the middle of the drive belt between the pulleys and check that the amount of deflection is within specification. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 8). See DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS table.

Adjusting Generator Belt

  1. Loosen the nut of the generator pivot bolt. (Scheme 6)
  2. Loosen the lock bolt.
  3. Turn the adjusting bolt. Turn crankshaft at least one rotation clockwise. Check belt vibration frequency, belt tension, or deflection to specification. See «DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/viii-2003-2005/remont/accessory-drive-belts/#specifications-drive-belt-routing-except-evolution-sportback) table.
  4. Tighten the lock bolt to 14-18 ft. lbs. (21-25 N.m).
  5. Tighten the nut of the generator pivot bolt to 26-40 ft. lbs. (34-54 N.m).
  6. Tighten the adjusting bolt to 36-52 ft. lbs. (4-6 N.m).

Adjusting Power Steering Pump & A/C Compressor Belts

  1. Loosen the tension pulley fixing nut "A" between the tension pulley. (Scheme 7)
  2. Adjust the belt vibration frequency, tension, or deflection amount using the adjusting bolt "B" according to specifications. (Scheme 7) See «DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/viii-2003-2005/remont/accessory-drive-belts/#specifications-drive-belt-routing-except-evolution-sportback) table.
  3. Tighten the fixing nut "A". (Scheme 7)
  4. Check the belt vibration frequency, tension, or deflection and readjust as necessary. See «DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/mitsubishi/lancer-evolution/viii-2003-2005/remont/accessory-drive-belts/#specifications-drive-belt-routing-except-evolution-sportback) table.
