EGR/MAINTENANCE REQUIRED WARNING LIGHT RESET INDEX
EGR/MAINTENANCE REQUIRED WARNING LIGHT RESET - PROCEDURE 1
- On some models, an EGR or MAINTENANCE REQUIRED warning light in dash will come on as a reminder to have EGR system serviced (each 50,000 miles), oxygen sensor replaced (each 80,000 miles), or evaporative carbon canister replaced (100,000 miles).
- After servicing or replacing components, reset mileage counter. Reset switch is located on back of instrument cluster. (Scheme 1), (Scheme 2) and (Scheme 3).
- Remove light bulb after 100,000 mile service on Montero. Remove light bulb after 120,000 mile service on Pickup, Van and Wagon.

SERVICE REMINDER WARNING RESET - PROCEDURE 1
Note. Periodic inspection service reminder is displayed on the information screen. It shows the time until the periodic inspection is due every 6 months or 7500 miles (12,000 kms). The symbol "- - -" is displayed when inspection time has arrived.
By operating the meter information button of the combination meter (to the right of the information screen), the service reminder warning reset and the schedule setting can be performed.
Service Reminder Reset
- Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
- Operate the multi-information meter button to display WARNING PERIOD on the odometer.
- Press the multi-information meter button once for at least 1.2 seconds.
- The service reminder indicator will flash.
- Press the multi-information meter button once for less than 1.2 seconds while the service reminder indicator is flashing.
- The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and "CLEAR" is displayed on the odometer for 3 seconds.
- After "CLEAR" is displayed for 3 seconds, the time until next warning period is displayed.
SERVICE REMINDER WARNING RESET - PROCEDURE 2
By operating the selection button of the combination meter (lower right of the instrument cluster), the service reminder warning reset and the schedule setting can be performed.
- Move the electric motor switch to the OFF position.
- Operate the selection button to display WARNING PERIOD on the odometer.
- Press the selection button once for at least 1.2 seconds.
- The service reminder indicator will flash.
- Press the selection button once for less than 1.2 seconds while the service reminder indicator is flashing.
- The service reminder indicator is turned ON, and "CLEAR" is displayed on the odometer for 3 seconds.
- After "CLEAR" is displayed for 3 seconds, the time until next warning period is displayed.

TIMING CHAIN MAINTENANCE DISPLAY RESET INDEX

If the vehicle equipped with 2.0L turbocharged engine (4B11-T/C) is used for rough driving, like competitive running*, the amount of carbon mixed into the engine oil tends to increase. This can possibly cause the timing chain to gradually elongate. To prevent this, the function or logic monitoring the amount of elongation of the timing chain is integrated into the ECM. When the ECM detects the elongation of the timing chain, the warning is shown on the multi-information display of combination meter as shown in the illustration. This gives the driver the information that a visual check of the elongation of the timing chain is necessary. If this warning is continuously neglected, the timing chain can possibly interfere with the other engine components, resulting in the engine being damaged.
Note. * Competitive running means the engine constantly repeats the cycle of the full opened position of the accelerator pedal and the full closed position of the accelerator pedal (Fully floored and fully released pedal positions).
The ECM stores the timing chain conditions as the learning value when the timing chain is installed. The ECM stores the amount of elongation of the timing chain in the EEPROM as the current learning value, compared with the learning value. The ECM judges that the visual check of the elongation of the timing chain is necessary when the current learning value exceeds the specified value. Thus, use the scan tool MB991958 to always carry out the maintenance of the learning value related to the timing chain that is stored by the ECM after the following service.

- After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, connect scan tool MB991958 to the diagnosis connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
- Select "MFI" from System select Screen of scan tool MB991958.
- Select "Special Function" from MFI Screen.
- Select "Timing chain maintenance" from Special Function Screen.
- Select "Learned value reset" from Timing chain maintenance Screen.
- Press "OK" to reset the learning value.
TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 1
Note. If a TPM system tire pressure sensor, receiver, antenna or feeder cable(s) is replaced, the tire pressure sensors must be registered.
The following tools are used to register TPM system
- TPMS Magnet (MIT46716) or a strong magnet
- Scan Tool (MUT-III Sub Assembly) (MB991958)
- Vehicle Communication Interface (V.C.I.) (MB991824)
- MUT-III USB Cable (MB991827)
- MUT-III Main Harness A (MB991910)
| CAUTION | To prevent damage to Scan Tool (MB991958), always turn ignition switch to OFF position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool. |
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). see scheme 6
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Select "INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSIS" from start-up screen.
- Select "SYSTEM SELECT".
- Choose "TPMS" from "CHASSIS" tab.
- Select "MITSUBISHI".
- Select "SPECIAL FUNCTION".
- Select "TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ID REGISTRATION". NOTE: Register all tire pressure sensor ID's within 5 minutes.
- Select "5TIRES PRES SNSR ID REGISTRATION (NORMAL SPARE TIRE)" or "4TIRES PRES SNSR ID REGISTRATION (COMPACT SPARE TIRE)" and start tire pressure sensor ID registration.
- Emit signal from a tire pressure sensor as follows: Clean tire pressure sensor location on wheel rim. Position TPMS Magnet (MIT46716) or a strong magnet as shown, and hold it there for 5 seconds or more. see scheme 7 The reed switch (incorporated in tire pressure sensor) will activate sensor to send tire pressure sensor ID.
- Using scan tool, ensure sensor is activated.
- Repeat steps 8 - 10 for all sensor-fitted tires (including spare tire). NOTE: If the spare tire pressure sensor ID cannot be registered, bring the spare tire near one of the road tires. Then register the tire pressure sensor ID. There is no TPMS antenna for the spare tire, so this work helps the road tire TPMS antenna receive signal from the spare tire securely. NOTE: If the spare tire is removed, always reposition valve. see scheme 8 If valve is not positioned as shown, the system may determine the spare tire as a road tire incorrectly.
- Check completion of the tire pressure sensor ID registration (display on screen).
- After tire pressure sensor ID registration, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove scan tool. Ensure warning light does not illuminate or flash.
TPMS RESET - PROCEDURE 2
- Connect MUT III scan tool. Turn igntion switch to ON postion. From the "Special Functions" screen, select "Tire Pressure Sensor ID Registration".
- Select "4tires ID Reg. (Change tire PRS.)" and start the tire pressure sensor ID registration. NOTE: If the ID code registration is not finished within 20 minutes, all the ID codes registered in the TPMS transmitter before will be erased. For this reason, the ID codes need to be registered again.
- Decrease the tire pressure to 174 kPa (25.2 psi) or less by changing 20 kPa (2.9 psi) or more, and register the TPMS transmitter ID code of each wheel to KOS-ECU. NOTE: You can start out the operations from any TPMS transmitter. The tire pressure sensor ID registration has no order. On completion of the TPMS transmitter ID code registration, the TPMS transmitter ID code is displayed on the scan tool screen. Scan tool cannot identify which registered TPMS transmitter is used for each wheel. For this reason, write down the tire number for each wheel when the tire number and ID code is displayed on the scan tool during ID code registration. It may take approximately one minute for the ID code to be displayed on the scan tool screen after the tire pressure is reduced. If the ID code is not displayed, reduce the tire pressure another 20 kPa (2.9 psi) or more. If the ID code is not displayed yet, rotate the tire to displace the TPMS transmitter, and reduce the tire pressure 20 kPa (2.9 psi) or more again. If the ID code cannot be registered for all the four wheels, the KOS-ECU may be faulty, thus replace the KOS-ECU. If the ID code can be registered for one wheel or more, the TPMS transmitter in which the code cannot be registered may be faulty, thus replace that TPMS transmitter.
- "4 SNSR ID Registration Completed." is displayed. Then, select "OK".
- After one minute or more has passed, correct the tire pressure for all wheels with ignition switch "ON".
- Check the data list "Registered ID reception, Tire 1, 2, 3, 4" if "YES" is displayed for each tire. When "NO" is displayed, drive the vehicle for approximately 5 minutes, check the display again. If "NO" is still displayed, register the ID code again.
