Removal and Installation
Note. When the PCM is replaced, the new PCM must be programmed with the old module's configuration information. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) PROGRAMMING - WDS .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-221834-S42533501902006022600000) .
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) cover. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the nuts and the cover.
- Remove the PCM.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 2: MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR - 2.3L
- Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE -- 2.3L»(ref-221822-S11174026902006022600000) .
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the four nuts and the MAF sensor.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF/IAT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the four nuts and the MAF/IAT sensor.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.
- Remove the CMP bolt.
- Remove the CMP sensor.
- Remove the O-ring.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-221834-S42533501902006022600000) .
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
- Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.
- Remove the plug.
- Turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to position the number one cylinder at top dead center and install the special tool.
- Remove the CKP sensor bolts and the CKP sensor.

| CAUTION | Only hand tighten the bolt or damage to the front cover may occur. |

- Install a 6 mm (0.23 in) x 18 mm (0.7 in) standard bolt. NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
- Install the CKP sensor and connect the electrical connector.
- Adjust the CKP sensor alignment jig and tighten the CKP bolts to the specification.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the special tool.
- Install the plug.
- Connect the negative battery cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-221834-S42533501902006022600000) .

- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the bolts and the right front lower splash shield.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the CKP sensor bolt.
- Remove the CKP sensor.
- Remove the CKP sensor O-ring.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the two screws and the TP sensor.

- Disconnect the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the CHT sensor.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE -- 3.0L (4V)»(ref-221824-S25313461482006022600000)
- Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the ECT sensor. Pull upward on the locking tab. Rotate the sensor counterclockwise and remove.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. See «AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE -- 2.3L»(ref-221822-S11174026902006022600000) .
- Remove the upper snow shield. Remove the upper snow shield-to-intake manifold screw. Remove the upper snow shield-to-intake manifold pin-type retainer.
- Remove the lower snow shield. Remove the lower snow shield-to-intake manifold screws (2 req'd).
- Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
- Remove the two bolts and the IAC valve. Discard the gasket.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new gasket.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. See «BATTERY DISCONNECT»(ref-221834-S42533501902006022600000) .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the IAC valve bolts.
- Remove the IAC valve.
- Discard the IAC valve gasket.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install a new gasket.

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
- Remove the bolts and the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
- Using the special tool, remove the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Using the special tool, remove the HO2S and the catalyst monitor sensor.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Disconnect the KS electrical connector and remove the connector from the mounting bracket.
- Remove the bolt and the KS.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the generator. See «GENERATOR»(ref-221834-S25486512672006022600000) .
- Remove the upper intake manifold. See «UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-221824-S38983032742006022600000) .
- Disconnect the two 16-pin electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the PSP sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the six fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the six coil-on-plug electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the radio interference capacitor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.
- Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the two wiring harness retainers.
- Detach the seven wiring harness retainers.
- Detach the three wiring harness retainers.
- Detach the two pin-type wiring harness retainers and remove the fuel charging wiring harness from the engine.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
