Removal & Installation
| WARNING | When repairing the starter motor or working underhood in the vicinity of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and reinstalled after repairing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. |
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove the starter bolts. (Scheme 12)
- Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the halfshaft support bracket bolts and nuts. (Scheme 13)
- Remove battery cable and starter control electrical connector nuts. (Scheme 14)
- Remove starter.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154667-S37567163862003052000000).

- Disconnect the battery cable.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet tube and the air cleaner assembly.
- Drain the engine cooling system.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses and position the thermostat aside. (Scheme 15)
- Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the nuts and position the starter solenoid cables aside. (Scheme 16)
- Remove the two bolts and the starter motor. (Scheme 17)
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-154667-S37567163862003052000000).
