INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]
| WARNING | A hot engine and intake-air system can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the intake-air system. - Complete the "BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367620-S18319994272010072700000) ).
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367630-S30865077932010072700000) ).
- Remove the engine cover. (See «ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367623-S37771794152010072700000) ).
- Drain the engine coolant. (See «ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [13B-MSP]»(ref-367619-S09402478192010072700000) ).
- Remove in the order indicated in the figure below.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Complete the "AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION". (See «AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367620-S01598983592010072700000) ).

Extension Manifold (Upper) Removal Note
- Remove the front suspension tower bar. (See «FRONT SUSPENSION TOWER BAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MT]»(ref-367650-S11111731452010072700000) ).
- Remove the bracket as shown in the figure.
- Remove the extension manifold (upper).

Fresh-Air Duct Installation Note
- Install the fasteners.
- Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

Fuel line spills and leakage from the pressurized fuel system are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injury or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure" while referring to the " BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [13B-MSP] ". Remove the engine, transmission and crossmember carefully, holding it steady. If the transmission falls it could be damaged or cause injury. After disconnecting the steering shaft joint, always set the EPS system to the neutral position to prevent system malfunction. (See EPS SYSTEM NEUTRAL POSITION SETTING ). |
| CAUTION | Do not bend the jet air fuel mixing nozzle. Otherwise malfunction of the engine may occur. Exercise extreme caution when handling the intake manifold. |
Note. The engine must be removed to remove the intake manifold. Remove the engine, transmission, and crossmember component as a single unit downward of the vehicle.

- Remove the following parts: Front wheel and tires (See «GENERAL PROCEDURES (SUSPENSION)»(ref-367653-S09969444102010072700000) ). Engine cover (See «ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367623-S37771794152010072700000) ). Front suspension tower bar (See «FRONT SUSPENSION TOWER BAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MT]»(ref-367650-S11111731452010072700000) ). Battery cover, battery, battery box and battery tray (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367630-S30865077932010072700000) ). Air cleaner, intake-air duct and air cleaner insulator (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367618-S14848159782010072700000) ). PCM (See «PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367617-S28888613132010072700000) ). - Drain the engine coolant. (See «ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [13B-MSP]»(ref-367619-S09402478192010072700000) ).
- Disconnect the brake vacuum hose.
- Disconnect the quick release connector going to the charcoal canister from the engine room side. (See «QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367620-S05413670652010072700000) ).
- Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel distributor (housing side). (See «FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367620-S22529116302010072700000) ).
- Remove the ignition coil. (See «IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367622-S42780437832010072700000) ).
- Remove the A/C belt. (See «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT [13B-MSP]»(ref-367623-S36063400392010072700000) ).
- Remove the A/C compressor with the pipes connected and secure the A/C compressor using wire or rope so that it is out of the way.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the main fuse block side.
- Remove the aerodynamic under cover. (See «AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-367654-S38607773612010072700000) ).
- Remove the undercover. (See «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [13B-MSP]»(ref-367624-S00267410712010072700000) ).
- Disconnect front ABS wheel speed sensor connector. (See «FRONT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-367628-S40934754522010072700000) ).
- Disconnect the radiator hose, the heater hose and coolant reserve tank hose.
- Disconnect the selector link. (AT) (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL]»(ref-367646-S25847343162010072700000) ).
- Remove the clutch release cylinder with the pipes connected and secure the clutch release cylinder using wire or rope so that it is out of the way. (MT) (See «CLUTCH RELEASE CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-367634-S42619525872010072700000) ).

- Remove the engine, transmission, and crossmember component. (See «ENGINE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367623-S26200796762010072700000) ).
- Remove the extension manifold (upper and lower). (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367618-S14848159782010072700000) ).
- Remove the AIR control valve. (See «SECONDARY AIR INJECTION (AIR) CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [13B-MSP]»(ref-367621-S42892419672010072700000) ).
- Remove in the order indicated in the figure below.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.

Intake Manifold Installation Note
- Apply oil thoroughly to the APV as shown in the figure.
- Tighten the bolts in the order shown in the figure
- Retighten the No. 1 bolt after tighten the all bolts.

18.6-25.5 N.m {1.9-2.6 kgf.m, 14-18 ft.lbf}

- Install in the reverse order of removal.
