OVERHAUL
| WARNING | Use of any other than the approved DOT 3 brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will render the brakes inoperative. |
| WARNING | Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. |
| CAUTION | Do not allow the brake master cylinder reservoir to run dry during the bleeding operation. Keep the brake master cylinder reservoir filled with the specified brake fluid. Never reuse the brake fluid that has been drained from the hydraulic system. |
| CAUTION | Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water. |
Note. When any part of the hydraulic system has been disconnected for repair or replacement, air may enter the system, causing spongy brake pedal action. This requires the bleeding of the hydraulic system after components have been correctly reconnected.
Disassembly & Reassembly
- Disassemble in the order indicated in the illustration. (Scheme 24) NOTE: Place a piece of wood in the caliper, then blow compressed air through the bleeder hole to force the piston out of the caliper.
- Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-164898-S25166227052004081800000).
Scheme 24
- Disassemble in the order indicated in the illustration. (Scheme 25) NOTE: When disassembling the piston rotate the piston counter-clockwise slowly using the Caliper Piston Socket (49-F043-002) and remove the piston completely out of the caliper body. Rotate piston in the opposite direction of the arrow in the illustration. see scheme 24
- Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-164898-S25166227052004081800000). Bleed air from system. See «BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-164898-S21370777542004081800000). NOTE: On dust seal, during piston assembly, assemble the dust seal to the piston. Assemble the lip of the dust seal to the groove of the caliper body with the dust seal is assembled to the piston as shown in the illustration. (Scheme 26) Rotate the piston clockwise slowly using the caliper piston socket and push in the piston completely until the piston grooves are in the position as shown in the illustration. see scheme 24 Verify that the dust seal is installed into the groove of the piston securely.
