DESCRIPTION
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system allows measured amounts of exhaust gas into the intake manifold to reduce emissions. System consists of EGR valve, EGR solenoid valve and hoses.
EGR VALVE
- Operate engine to normal operating temperature. Allow engine to idle. On turbo models, remove hose from EGR valve. On non-turbo models, remove vacuum hose from EGR solenoid valve. (Scheme 24)
- On all models, use vacuum pump and apply 3.9 in. Hg to EGR valve. Replace EGR valve if rough engine idle or stalling does not exist. Reconnect hoses.

EGR SOLENOID VALVE
- Disconnect hose from solenoid valve. Blow through port "B". (Scheme 25) Air should flow from air filter. Remove connector from valve.
- Apply battery voltage and ground to proper terminals. (Scheme 25) Blow through port "B". Air should flow through port "A". Replace valve if necessary.
