Locking Hubs - Automatic Free-Wheeling: Removal & Installation Mazda MPV I

Removal

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove protector plate from change motor. Change motor is located on transaxle. (Scheme 7) Disconnect change motor connector and remove change motor.

Installation

1. Align mark on change drum groove with 2H mark. (Scheme 8) Ensure marks on change motor shaft and body are aligned. (Scheme 8) If marks are not aligned, connect positive lead of battery to terminal 2A of change motor connector and negative lead to terminal 2B. see scheme 6 Rotate shaft and align marks.
2. Lubricate NEW "O" ring and install on change motor. Install change motor. Install protector plate. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article.

Scheme 8

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain front differential fluid. Disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical switch connector. Remove mounting bolts from actuator. see scheme 2, see scheme 3 and see scheme 4. Remove control box-to-differential carrier mounting bolts. Remove control box and actuator from vehicle.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article. Fill front differential with fluid.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove engine skid plate. see scheme 2, see scheme 3 and see scheme 4. Drain front differential fluid. Remove left tie rod end and left lower control arm. Remove left front drive axle. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS article.
2. Disconnect vacuum hoses from vacuum actuator. Disconnect control box electrical switch connector. Remove clip/pin from vacuum actuator rod. Remove control box assembly from differential carrier. see scheme 2, see scheme 3 and see scheme 4.
3. Remove AFW assembly mounting nuts. Disconnect AFW assembly from differential carrier assembly. Remove actuator from shaft housing.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article. Fill front differential with fluid.
