- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the battery and battery tray. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375359-S31806842452010102800000) .)
- Remove the windshield wiper arm and blade. (See «WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-375374-S11692705452010102800000) .)
- Remove the cowl grille. (See «COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-375375-S07009167252010102800000) .)
- Remove the windshield wiper motor. (See «WINDSHIELD WASHER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-375374-S25116322492010102800000) .)
- Remove the cowl panel. (See «COWL PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-375392-S10901129492010102800000) .)
- Remove the PCM bracket with the PCM connector still connected. (See «PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S19052500852010102800000) .)
- Install the battery and battery tray. (See «BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375359-S31806842452010102800000) .)
- Connect the negative battery cable.

Continuity Inspection

VARIABLE TUMBLE SHUTTER VALVE SWITCH INSPECTION [L5]
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Verify that the voltage (M-MDS PID: IMRC_POS) within the specification. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) .) If not as specified, replace the intake manifold. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine coolant. (See «ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [L5]»(ref-375353-S12210369572010102800000) .)
- Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
- Remove the ECT sensor. (See «ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S11876240342010102800000) .)
- Place the ECT sensor in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.
- Measure the resistance between the ECT sensor terminals A and B using an ohmmeter. If not as specified, replace the ECT sensor. (See «ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S11876240342010102800000) .)

Visual Inspection
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
- Remove the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
- Visually inspect the MAF/IAT sensor for the following: Damage, cracks, soiling Rusted sensor terminal Bent sensor terminal If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
Voltage Inspection
- Remove the MAF/IAT sensor without disconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- As the air gradually approaches the MAF detection part of the MAF/IAT sensor, verify that the voltage (M-MDS PID: MAF) varies. If not as verified, replace the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
- Measure the resistance between the MAF/IAT sensor terminals D and E using an ohmmeter. If not as specified, replace the MAF/IAT sensor. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Verify that the voltage (M-MDS PID: MAP) within the specification. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) .) If not as specified, replace the MAP sensor. (See «MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S05476796052010102800000) .)
BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (BARO) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Verify that the voltage (M-MDS PID: BARO) within the specification. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) ) NOTE: Because the PCM is integrated in the BARO sensor, replacing the BARO sensor includes replacement of the PCM. If not as specified, replace the PCM. (See «PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S19052500852010102800000) .)
THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]
| CAUTION | The inspection cannot be performed with this method correctly if there is a malfunction of the APP sensor or throttle valve actuator. Verify that no DTCs related to the APP sensor or throttle valve actuator are stored before the inspection. |
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Verify that the TP sensor output voltage (M-MDS PID: TP1, TP2) is within the specification. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) .) If not as specified, replace the throttle body. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR INSPECTION [L5]
- Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Verify that the APP sensor output voltage (PID: APP1, APP2) increases according to the increase in the accelerator opening angle when the accelerator opening angle is gradually increased. If verified, go to the next step. If not as verified, replace the accelerator pedal. (See «ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S42722424332010102800000) .)
- Verify that the APP sensor output voltage (PID: APP1, APP2) is within the specification when the accelerator pedal is depressed and not depressed. If not as specified, replace the accelerator pedal. (See «ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S42722424332010102800000) .)
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the splash shield (RH).
- Disconnect the CKP sensor connector.
- Remove the CKP sensor. (See «CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S00445311502010102800000) .)
- Verify that there are no metal shavings on the sensor. Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.
Scheme 106
- Verify that the CKP sensor is securely installed.
- Using a thickness gauge, measure the air gap between the plate projections at the back of crankshaft pulley and the CKP sensor. If not within the specification, inspect the plate projections for cracks or bending. If there is any malfunction, replace the crankshaft pulley. (See «FRONT OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT [L5]»(ref-375350-S07329822372010102800000) .) CKP sensor air gap 0.5-1.5 mm {0.02-0.05 in}
- Idle the engine.
- Measure the CKP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) ) If not within the specification, replace the CKP sensor. (See «CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S00445311502010102800000) .)
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the plug hole plate. (See «PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375350-S23041993352010102800000) .)
- Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.
- Remove the CMP sensor. (See «CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S18829582512010102800000) .)
- Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor. Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.
- Idle the engine.
- Measure the CMP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See «PCM INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S07672034272010102800000) ) If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. (See «CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375347-S18829582512010102800000) .)

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the plug hole plate. (See «PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375350-S23041993352010102800000) .)
- Remove the intake manifold. (See «INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375352-S14647925242010102800000) .)
- Disconnect the KS connector.
- Remove the KS.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the KS connector.
- Measure the resistance between the KS terminals A and B using an ohmmeter. If not as specified, replace the KS. (See «KNOCK SENSOR (KS) INSPECTION [L5]»(ref-375347-S04086093472010102800000) .) Specification Approx. 4.63-5.11 megohms [ECT: 25°C {77°F}]
- Remove the evaporative hose component. (See «FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375354-S19244581302010102800000) .)
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Plug one end of the evaporative hose component and verify that the output voltage from the fuel tank pressure sensor changes when pressure is applied from the other hose end. If not as verified, replace the evaporative hose component. (See «FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5]»(ref-375354-S19244581302010102800000) .)
