Power Windows: Removal & Installation Mazda 626 GD

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Note. When the battery has been disconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Engine Control Unit (ECU) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

Removal

1. Remove the (2) screws retaining the door trim panel located above the door handle. Also remove (1) screw in the upper front portion of door trim panel. (Scheme 1)
2. Remove trim cup at the door handle using a screwdriver or sharp object. Retention nibs will flex for easy removal.
3. To remove power window door lock and mirror control plate, use notch at lower end of plate using screwdriver to lift and remove.
4. Remove plate from door trim panel pulling wire harness from inside panel.
5. From bottom of plate, remove (2) screws and disconnect connector from switches; then flex finger on power mirror switch connector to disconnect.
6. At each plastic clip location, pry the door trim panel away from the door inner panel using a door trim panel removing tool.
7. When wiring and disengagement of trim clips is completed, it is recommended that to remove panel, lift slightly to remove flange at the top of door trim panel from trough in the glass weather strip. Pay special attention to the cut-out in the door trim panel for the door handle, so that it clears the handle during removal. NOTE: Do not pull on the trim panel to remove clips from the inner panel holes.
8. Disconnect socket and bulb from illuminated courtesy lamp before total removal of panel.

Scheme 1

1. Remove the (2) screws retaining the door trim panel located above the door handle. Also remove (1) screw in the upper front portion of door trim panel. (Scheme 1)

3. To remove power window door lock and mirror control plate, use notch at lower end of plate using screwdriver to lift and remove.
4. Remove plate from door trim panel pulling wire harness from inside panel.
5. From bottom of plate, remove (2) screws and disconnect connector from switches; then flex finger on power mirror switch connector to disconnect.
6. At each plastic clip location, pry the door trim panel away from the door inner panel using a door trim panel removing tool.
7. When wiring and disengagement of trim clips is completed, it is recommended that to remove panel, lift slightly to remove flange at the top of door trim panel from trough in the glass weather strip. Pay special attention to the cut-out in the door trim panel for the door handle, so that it clears the handle during removal. NOTE: Do not pull on the trim panel to remove clips from the inner panel holes.
8. Disconnect socket and bulb from illuminated courtesy lamp before total removal of panel.
9. Remove the speaker.
10. Raise glass to full up position.
11. Remove inside belt weatherstrip.
12. Remove rear glass run retainer from door.
13. Lower glass to gain access to glass bracket and glass retention rivets. (Scheme 2)
14. Remove the glass through the door belt opening.

Installation

1. Install glass into the door through the belt opening.
2. Position the door glass to the door glass bracket and align glass and glass bracket retaining holes.
3. Install the retention nuts.
4. Raise glass to full up position.
5. Install rear glass run retainer.
6. Install inside belt weatherstrip.
7. Cycle glass up and down to check operation.
8. Install speaker.
9. Follow removal procedures in reverse order. Insert front of glass first and then lower back glass into door. Use 3/4-inch rivets as replacements. (Scheme 2)

1. Raise the window to the full-up position, if possible. If the glass can not be raised and is in a partially down position, it must be supported so that it will not fall into the door well during motor removal.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the (2) screws retaining the door trim panel located above the door handle. Also remove (1) screw in the upper front portion of door trim panel. (Scheme 1)
3. Remove trim cup at the door handle using a screwdriver or sharp object. Retention nibs will flex for easy removal.

9. Disconnect socket and bulb from illuminated courtesy lamp before total removal of panel.
10. Disconnect the window motor connector.
11. Position the motor wiring harness out of the way. There are two holes and one drill dimple located on the door inner panel adjacent to the motor. CAUTION: Prior to motor removal, make sure that the regulator arm is in a fixed position to prevent counterbalance spring unwind.
12. Remove the three window motor mounting screws and disengage the motor and drive assembly from the regulator quadrant gear.

1. Position the motor and drive to the regulator and install the three screws snug, not tight.
2. Connect the motor wires at the connector and cycle the glass to ensure gear engagement. After the gears are engaged, tighten the three motor and drive attaching screws to 5.6-9.6 N.m (50-84 INCH lbs).
3. Install the door trim panel and water shield. NOTE: Appropriate plug buttons may be installed to cover the exposed hole at the trim panel edge, if necessary.
4. Connect battery ground cable.
5. Check the drain holes at the bottom of the doors to ensure that each is open to prevent water buildup over the motor.

Scheme 2

1. Using a thin bladed tool, carefully pry up the rear of the switch housing and rotate the housing up and out of the armrest. .
2. Remove the four connector attaching screws from the bottom of the switch housing.
3. The switch is held in place by the electrical contact pins. To remove the switch, carefully pry the switch from the connector with a small screwdriver.

1. Position the switch to the connector and press firmly into place.
2. Install the connector to the switch housing using the two attaching screws.
3. Install the switch housing to the armrest by hooking the front of the housing to the armrest and by pushing the rear of the housing firmly into place.
