  1. When the customer reports vehicle malfunction, check the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) indication, AT warning indication, and diagnostic trouble code (DTC), then diagnose the malfunction according to following flowchart. If a DTC exists, diagnose the applicable DTC inspection. (See «DTC TABLE [AW6A-EL]» ). If a DTC does not exist and the MIL and AT warning lights do not illuminate, diagnose the applicable symptom troubleshooting. (See «SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ITEM TABLE [AW6A-EL].» )

Scheme 986: DTC Reading Procedure
  1. Perform necessary vehicle preparation and visual inspection.
  2. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
  3. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initial screen of the M-MDS. When using the IDS (laptop PC) Select "Self Test". Select "Modules". Select "TCM". When using the PDS (Pocket PC) Select "Module Tests". Select "TCM". Select "Self Test".
  4. Verify the DTC according to the directions on the screen. If any DTCs are displayed, perform troubleshooting according to the corresponding DTC inspection.
  5. After completion of repairs, clear all DTCs stored in the TCM. See «AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE [AW6A-EL]».
