AIR FILTER INSPECTION

  1. Inspect for damage, excessive dirt, or foul smell. If the air filter Is damaged, excessively dirty, or foul smelling, replace it. NOTE: The air filter cannot be reused by cleaning it with water or compressed air.

Scheme 131: EXPANSION VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system. (See «REFRIGERANT RECOVERY.»(ref-244597-S40057551832006092500000) ) (See «REFRIGERANT CHARGING [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244597-S19391442482006092500000) ) CAUTION: If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
  3. Disconnect the cooler hose (Lo) and cooler pipe No. 3. (See «REFRIGERANT LINES REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC]»(ref-244610-S01329408872006092500000) ).
  4. Remove the passenger-side air bag module. (See «PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244613-S03514713082006092500000) )
  5. Remove the duct (1).
  6. Remove the air mix actuator. (See «AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244598-S00666208702006092500000) )
  7. Remove the adhesive polyurethane (1). (See «ADHESIVE POLYURETHANE (1) ASSEMBLY NOTE»(ref-244610-S14565589402006092500000) ).
  8. Remove the screws and cover.
  9. Remove the one bolt and shift the outlet pipe. Do not allow compressor oil to spill.
  10. Remove the two bolts.
  11. Remove the expansion valve. Do not allow compressor oil to spill.
  12. Remove the screws and plate.
  13. Remove the adhesive polyurethane (2). (See «ADHESIVE POLYURETHANE (2) ASSEMBLY NOTE»(ref-244610-S19917131042006092500000) ).
  14. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  15. Perform the refrigerant system performance test. (See «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244597-S13012049292006092500000) )

EVAPORATOR INSPECTION

  1. Remove the evaporator from the A/C unit.
  2. Inspect for cracks, damage, and oil leakage. If any problems are found, replace the evaporator.
  3. Inspect for bent fins. If any are bent, use a flathead screwdriver to straighten them.

HEATER CORE INSPECTION

  1. Remove the heater core from the A/C unit.
  2. Inspect for cracks, damage, and coolant leakage. If any problems are found, replace the heater core.
  3. Inspect for bent fins. If any are bent, use a flathead screwdriver to straighten them.
  4. Verify that the heater core inlet and outlet pipes are not distorted or damaged. Repair with pliers if necessary.

Scheme 132: REAR HEAT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3, AJ]
  1. Turn over the floor covering. (See «FLOOR COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244641-S02708350942006092500000) )
  2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 133: REAR HEAT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC]
  1. Turn over the floor covering. (See «FLOOR COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244641-S02708350942006092500000) )
  2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  3. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 134: A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3, AJ]
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system. (See «REFRIGERANT CHARGING [L3, AJ].»(ref-244597-S41142216822006092500000) )
  3. Remove the right side splash shield and mudguard.
  4. Remove the WU-TWC. (AJ only) (See «EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ].»(ref-244590-S18295175352006092500000) )
  5. Loosen the drive belt and remove it. CAUTION: If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
  6. Remove in the order indicated in the table. Do not allow compressor oil to spill.
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Adjust the drive belt.
  9. Perform the refrigerant system performance test. (See «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST [L3, AJ].»(ref-244597-S29385371262006092500000) )

CONDENSER INSPECTION

  1. Inspect for cracks, damage, and oil leakage. If any are found, replace the condenser.
  2. Inspect for fins clogged by dust. If any are clogged, remove the dust from the fins.
  3. Inspect for bent fins. If any are bent, use a flathead screwdriver to straighten them.

Scheme 135: REFRIGERANT LINES REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3, AJ]
  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system. (See «REFRIGERANT CHARGING [L3, AJ].»(ref-244597-S41142216822006092500000) )
  3. Remove the reservoir. (AJ)

  5. Remove the under cover. CAUTION: If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug all open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
  6. Remove in the order indicated in the table. Do not allow compressor oil to spill.
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Perform the refrigerant system performance test. (See «REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST [L3, AJ].»(ref-244597-S29385371262006092500000) )

Scheme 136: Refrigerant Lines Removal Note
  1. Disconnect the block joint type pipes by grasping female side of the block with pliers or similar tool and holding firmly, then remove the connection bolt or nut.

Scheme 137: Refrigerant Lines Installation Note
  1. Tighten the bolt of joint by hand.
  2. Tighten the joint to the specified torque.
  3. Connect the block joint type pipes by grasping the female side of the block with pliers or similar tool and holding firmly, then tighten the connection bolt with a torque wrench.

Scheme 138: REFRIGERANT LINES REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC]
  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system. (See «REFRIGERANT RECOVERY.»(ref-244597-S40057551832006092500000) ) (See «REFRIGERANT CHARGING [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244597-S19391442482006092500000) )
  3. Remove the air cleaner cover, air cleaner element and air cleaner case. (See «INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244582-S40996001322006092500000) )
  4. Remove the shroud panel. (See «SHROUD PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244606-S04058949922006092500000) )
  5. Remove the right splash shield.
  6. Remove the right mud guard.
  7. Remove the front bumper. (See «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244606-S22236518132006092500000) )
  8. Remove the washer tank. (See «WASHER TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 WITH TC].»(ref-244639-S28212826982006092500000) )
  9. Remove the front combination light (RH). (See «FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.»(ref-244635-S26466971572006092500000) )
  10. Remove in the order indicated in the table. Do not allow compressor oil to spill. CAUTION: If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug all open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
  11. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 139: Block joint type
  1. Disconnect the block joint type pipes by grasping female side of the block with pliers or similar tool and holding firmly, then remove the connection bolt or nut.
