SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION

CAUTIONWater or foreign objects entering the connector can cause a poor connection or corrosion. Be sure not to drop water or foreign objects on the connector when disconnecting it.

Scheme 457: Selector Lever Inspection
  1. Switch the ignition to ON.
  2. Shift the selector lever to each position and inspect the selector lever. If there is any malfunction, adjust the selector cable. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-517496-S37097310912012121200000).) Verify that the selector lever can be shifted as shown in the figure. (Scheme 457): Identifying Selector Lever Shift Positions Verify that the selector lever can be shifted smoothly and moderately.

  1. Disconnect the selector lever component connector. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the side wall. (See «SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-517497-S42051367322012121200000).) Remove the front console component. (See «FRONT CONSOLE COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-517497-S35138574242012121200000).) Disconnect the selector lever component connector.   2. Inspect the continuity between the selector lever component terminals E and F. (Scheme 459): Identifying Selector Lever Component Terminals If there is any malfunction, replace the selector lever component. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-517496-S37097310912012121200000).)

  1. Disconnect the interlock cable from the selector lever component. (Scheme 460): Interlock Cable And Selector Lever
  2. Switch the ignition to ON.
  3. Verify that the interlock cable moves smoothly when the brake pedal is depressed. (Scheme 461): Identifying Interlock Cable If there is any malfunction, replace the interlock cable. (See «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-517496-S37097310912012121200000).)

SHIFT-LOCK SYSTEM INSPECTION

  1. Switch the ignition to ON.
  2. Shift the selector lever to the P position.
  3. Perform the following procedures to inspect the shift-lock system. If there is any malfunction, inspect the interlock cable. (See «SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION»(ref-517496-S09528932232012121200000) .) Verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted from the P position to the R position when the brake pedal is released. Verify that the selector lever can be shifted from the P position to the R position when the brake pedal is depressed.

KEY INTERLOCK SYSTEM INSPECTION

  1. Switch the ignition to ON.
  2. Perform the following procedures to inspect the key interlock system. If there is any malfunction, inspect the interlock cable. (See «SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION»(ref-517496-S09528932232012121200000) .) Verify that the ignition cannot be turned to the OFF position when the selector lever is not in the P position. Verify that the ignition can be turned to the OFF position when the selector lever is in the P position.
