  1. Remove the halfshafts. See «AXLE SHAFTS - REAR, LS»(ref-142043) article for removal and installation procedures.
  2. Remove muffler. Remove the bolts, the nuts and the heat shield. (Scheme 3) Remove the heat shield underbody.
  3. Mark the pinion flange, the driveshaft flexible coupling and each of the three driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts, nuts and weighted nuts with different color paint so that the driveshaft and differential may be realigned during installation. (Scheme 4)
  4. Remove the three driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts and nuts.
  5. Support the driveshaft at the center and rear. (Scheme 5)
  6. Loosen the driveshaft yoke adjuster nut. (Scheme 6)
  7. Remove the bolts and the shims. see scheme 7
  8. Slide the rear driveshaft to the full forward position and tighten the adjuster nut. see scheme 8
  9. Position a suitable jack under the axle housing. see scheme 9
  10. Remove the three mounting bolts. see scheme 10
  11. Lower the axle housing assembly from the vehicle.
