- Remove the halfshafts. See «AXLE SHAFTS - REAR, LS»(ref-142043) article for removal and installation procedures.
- Remove muffler. Remove the bolts, the nuts and the heat shield. (Scheme 3) Remove the heat shield underbody.
- Mark the pinion flange, the driveshaft flexible coupling and each of the three driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts, nuts and weighted nuts with different color paint so that the driveshaft and differential may be realigned during installation. (Scheme 4)
- Remove the three driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts and nuts.
- Support the driveshaft at the center and rear. (Scheme 5)
- Loosen the driveshaft yoke adjuster nut. (Scheme 6)
- Remove the bolts and the shims. see scheme 7
- Slide the rear driveshaft to the full forward position and tighten the adjuster nut. see scheme 8
- Position a suitable jack under the axle housing. see scheme 9
- Remove the three mounting bolts. see scheme 10
- Lower the axle housing assembly from the vehicle.
