  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation. NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION Remove the engine and transmission (See «REMOVAL»(ref-349714-S10589957032009120800000) ).
  3. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY (See «REMOVAL»(ref-349714-S10589957032009120800000) )
  4. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL Using a knife, cut off the lip of the oil seal. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. NOTE: Do not damage the surface of the oil seal press fit hole and crankshaft.
  5. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL Using SST, tap in a new oil seal until its surface is flush with the oil seal retainer edge. SST 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07150) NOTE: Keep the lip free from foreign matter. Do not tap on the oil seal at an angle.
  6. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-349714-S27537239552009120800000) )
  7. INSTALL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION Install the engine and transmission (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-349714-S27537239552009120800000) ).
  8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION Perform initialization (See «INITIALIZATION»(ref-349706-S07943075812009120800000) ). NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. INSPECT NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY Turn the roller by hand to check that it turns smoothly. If the roller does not turn smoothly, replace the No. 1 valve rocker arm sub-assembly.
  2. INSPECT VALVE LASH ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY NOTE: Keep the adjuster free from dirt and foreign objects. Use only clean engine oil. Place the lash adjuster into a container full of new engine oil. Insert SST's tip into the lash adjuster's plunger and use the tip to press down on the check ball inside the plunger. SST 09276-75010 Squeeze SST and the lash adjuster together to move the plunger up and down 5 to 6 times. Check the movement of the plunger and bleed air. OK: Plunger moves up and down. NOTE: When bleeding high-pressure air from the compression chamber, make sure that the tip of SST is actually pressing the check ball as shown in the illustration. If the check ball is not pressed, air will not bleed. After bleeding the air, remove SST. Then try to quickly and firmly press the plunger with your fingers. OK: Plunger can be pressed 3 times.
