  5. INSPECT ENGINE IDLE SPEED Warm up and stop the engine. HINT: A warmed up engine should have an engine coolant temperature of over 80°C (176°F) and an engine oil temperature of 60°C (140°F), and the engine rpm should be stabilized. When using the Techstream: Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. NOTE: Switch off all accessories and the A/C before connecting the Techstream. Race the engine at 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds. Turn the tester ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/Primary/Engine Speed. Standard idle speed: 700 to 800 rpm NOTE: When checking the idle speed, the transmission should be in neutral. HINT: Refer to the Techstream operator's manual for further details. If the idle speed is not as specified, check the air intake system. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3. When not using the Techstream: Using SST, connect a tachometer probe to terminal 9 (TAC) of the DLC3. SST 09843-18040 NOTE: Confirm the terminal numbers before connecting them. Connecting the wrong terminals can damage the engine. Race the engine at 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds. Check the idle speed. Idle speed (Transmission neutral position): 700 to 800 rpm If the speed is not as specified, check the air intake system. Disconnect the tachometer from the DLC3.
  6. INSPECT COMPRESSION Warm up and stop the engine. HINT: A warmed up engine should have an engine coolant temperature of over 80°C (176°F) and an engine oil temperature of 60°C (140°F), and the engine rpm should be stabilized. Remove the V-bank cover. Remove the 5 clips and air cleaner inlet cover. Remove the 8 clips and 2 engine room side covers. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 air cleaner inlet. Remove the 4 nuts and 2 air cleaner assemblies. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal (see «REMOVAL» ). Remove the battery and tray. 1. INSPECT OIL PUMP RELIEF VALVE Coat the relief valve with engine oil. Check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight. If it does not, replace the relief valve. If necessary, replace the timing chain cover assembly.
  2. INSPECT OIL PUMP ROTOR SET Install the rotors to the timing chain cover with the rotors' marks facing outward. Check that the rotors revolve smoothly. Check the tip clearance. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven rotor tips, as shown in the illustration. Standard tip clearance: 0.180 to 0.300 mm (0.0071 to 0.0118 in.) Maximum tip clearance: 0.300 mm (0.0118 in.) If the tip clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover assembly. Check the side clearance. Using a feeler gauge and steel square, measure the clearance between the rotors and steel square. Standard side clearance: 0.030 to 0.060 mm (0.0012 to 0.0024 in.) Maximum side clearance: 0.060 mm (0.0024 in.) If the side clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover assembly. Check the body clearance. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the timing chain cover and driven rotor, as shown in the illustration. Standard body clearance: 0.175 to 0.250 mm (0.0069 to 0.0098 in.) Maximum body clearance: 0.250 mm (0.0098 in.) If the body clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the timing chain cover assembly.
