PRECAUTION

  1. NOTICE FOR INITIALIZATION NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.   2. PRECAUTION FOR USING BATTERY DURING INSPECTION While using the battery during inspection, do not bring the positive and negative tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.
  3. PRECAUTION FOR HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT When any defects such as deformation, cracks, dents, chipping, etc. is identified on the discharge headlight (especially, on the headlight control ECU), replace it with a new one. Even if the operation seems to be normal, the failsafe function may be defective. Since the bulb of the discharge headlight and halogen bulbs (for headlight or fog light) have pressurized gas inside and can easily be broken if scratched or dropped, special care should be taken. When handling the bulb, hold the plastic or metal part and do not touch the glass part with bare hands. Never touch the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight with the light control switch in the HEAD position, as this could generate a momentary high voltage of 20000 V and lead to a serious accident. Never connect a tester to the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight for measurement, as this may result in a serious accident because of high voltage. When servicing the discharge headlight, do not allow the discharge headlight to come into contact with water. Turn off the light control switch and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and the connector of the headlight control ECU in advance to avoid electric shocks. When performing an operation related to the discharge headlight, operate it after assembling has been finished and never turn on the lights without a bulb installed. Do not turn on the discharge headlight using a power source other than the vehicle battery.

FAIL-SAFE CHART

  1. Headlight control ECU The headlight control ECU operates in the fail-safe mode if an abnormal condition such as those listed below has been detected. HEADLIGHT CONTROL ECU FAIL-SAFE CHART Item Outline Detection of abnormal input voltage (High input voltage) If voltage that is input to the headlight control ECU is approximately 20 V or more, the ECU stops illuminating the headlights, and resumes when the voltage drops to 16 V or less. Detection of abnormal input voltage (Low input voltage) If voltage that is input to the headlight control ECU is 6 V or less, the ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights, and resumes when the voltage is 10 V or more. Detection of abnormal output Open in output side circuit Short between output terminals Short between output terminal and body ground If an abnormal condition occurs in the voltage that is output by the headlight control ECU, the ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from OFF to HEAD) Detection of bulb flashing If the bulb flashing repeats within approximately 5 seconds and continues for approximately 60 seconds, the headlight control ECU stops illuminating low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from OFF to HEAD) Detection of abnormal light voltage (Low light voltage) After approximately 80 seconds since input voltage is supplied, if the light voltage is below approximately 31 V for approximately 0.5 seconds, the headlight control ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from OFF to HEAD) Detection of abnormal light voltage (High light voltage) If the light voltage is above approximately 69 V for approximately 0.5 seconds, the headlight control ECU stops illuminating the low beam headlights and will maintain this state until the power is reinstated (by turning the light control switch from OFF to HEAD)
  2. AFS ECU If the AFS ECU detects a malfunction in the automatic headlight beam level control system or intelligent AFS, it will take the actions indicated in the table below.
