Disassembly

Note. Replace axle hub assembly if it is dropped or given a strong shock. Do not allow any foreign matter to stick to sensor rotor. Pull straight out on speed sensor to prevent damage to sensor rotor. If damage occurs to sensor rotor, replace axle hub assembly. Do NOT scratch contact surface of axle hub and speed sensor.

  1. Using a pin punch and hammer, drive out 2 pins and remove 2 attachments from Special Tool (09520-00031 - 09520-00040, 09521-00020).
  2. Mount axle hub assembly in a soft jaw vise.
  3. Using Special Tool (09520-00031 - 09520-00040, 09521-00020, 09950-00020) and 2 bolts (diameter: 12 mm, pitch: 1.5 mm), remove speed sensor. (Scheme 32)

Assembly

  1. Clean contacting surface of axle hub and NEW speed sensor.
  2. Place speed sensor on axle hub so connector is set at bottom under on-vehicle condition.
  3. Using Special Tool (09214-76011) and a press, install NEW speed sensor to axle hub. (Scheme 33) Do NOT tap speed sensor directly with a hammer. Press in speed sensor straight and slow.

  1. Using 2 Special Tools (09727-30021), compress coil spring until there is clearance on both ends. Do NOT use an impact wrench as it will damage special tool. Set 2 special tools crosswise taking care not to interfere with each other's arms. When compressing coil spring, tighten 2 special tools alternately so spring is compressed uniformly. (Scheme 34)
  2. Remove suspension support center nut and rebound stopper. (Scheme 35)
  3. Remove insulator from coil spring.
  4. Compress and extend shock absorber and check that there is no abnormal resistance or unusual sounds. If there is any abnormality, replace shock absorber with a new one.
  5. If disposing of old shock absorber, fully extend shock absorber rod. Place shock absorber horizontally to prevent oil from coming out. Using a drill, make a hole on top of shell to discharge gas inside. (Scheme 36)

Scheme 36
  1. Install front coil spring insulator to suspension support. Match bolt of suspension support with cut-out part of insulator. (Scheme 37)
  2. Using 2 Special Tools (09727-30021), compress coil spring. Do NOT use an impact wrench as it will damage special tool. Set 2 special tools crosswise taking care not to interfere with each other's arms. When compressing coil spring, tighten 2 special tools alternately so spring is compressed uniformly. Install coil spring to shock absorber. Fit lower end of coil spring into gap of spring seat of shock absorber. (Scheme 38)
  3. Install suspension support and rebound stopper to rod.
  4. Temporarily tighten a NEW suspension support center nut. Turn suspension support so one bolt on suspension support faces as shown. (Scheme 39) Align bolt so a line drawn between rod and bolt would be parallel to direction of lower bushing.
  5. Remove special tool. Recheck direction of suspension support.
