STEERING SENSOR INITIALIZATION INDEX

STEERING SENSOR INITIALIZATION - PROCEDURE 1

When "System is Initializing" is displayed on the multi-display, correct the steering angle neutral point by fully turn the steering wheel to the right and left on flat ground.

Note. Memorizing the steering angle neutral point must be carried out with the hybrid system started. Apply the parking brake, depress the brake pedal, push the P position switch, and ensure that the vehicle is not moving.

Note. The "?" button is displayed at the same time as "System Initializing". If the "?" button is selected, Steering Initialization method is displayed.

Note. On some vehicles, an Intelligent Tester or Techstream may be used to perform the Steering Initialization procedure.

If the following message is displayed (Scheme 2), calibrate the neutral position of the steering wheel and confirm that the message has disappeared.

Initializing The Steering Sensor - Use one of the following methods

  1. With vehicle stopped, (On older models, turn on clearance sonar main switch, if equipped), turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and right. (The order is not important.)
  2. Drive for more than 5 minutes on an un-crowded road with as few curves and corners as possible

If the steering guide symbol disappears, the steering sensor has been initialized. If the steering guide symbol does not disappear, have the vehicle checked by your Lexus dealer.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM (TPMS)

TPMS RESET INDEX

Registration Of Transmitter ID

Note. If completion of steps 4 - 6 is not accomplished within 5 minutes., the mode will return to normal operating mode.

  1. Set the tire pressure of all wheels to the specified value.
  2. Connect the intelligent tester to DLC3.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Read and write down the ID by using the DATA LIST.
  5. Select the registration mode "MAIN".
  6. Input the ID using the intelligent tester and transmit it to the tire pressure warning ECU.
  7. Set the ID transmission condition to "COMPLETE".

Confirmation Of Transmitter ID Registration

  1. Set the tire pressure of all wheels to the specified value.
  2. Connect the intelligent tester to DLC3.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Select the "SIGNAL CHECK" mode on the intelligent tester.
  5. Forcibly transmit the transmitter IDs for all wheels.
  6. Check that test mode DTCs C2181/81, C2182/82, C2183/83, C2184/84 and C2185/85 are all erased.
  7. Set the tire pressure of all wheels to the specified value.

Register Transmitter ID

  1. Set the tire pressure of all tires to the specified value.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  4. Turn the ignition switch ON and the Techstream on.
  5. Select the registration mode "MAIN".
  6. Enter the menu items in this order: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Utility / ID Registration.
  7. Perform the procedures displayed on the screen.
  8. Confirmation of transmitter ID registration: Enter the menu items in this order: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List . Read the "ID Tire Inflation Pressure" values. Confirm that the tire pressure data of all tires is displayed on the screen.

Note. It may take up to about 2 or 3 minutes to update the tire pressure data. If the values are not displayed after a few minutes, perform troubleshooting according to the inspection procedure for DTCs C2121/21 to C2125/25 *1 or C2131/31 to C2135/35 *2. If the IDs have not been registered, DTC C2171/71 *1 (Transmitter ID not Registered in Main Mode) or C2172/72 *2 (Transmitter ID not Registered in 2nd Mode) is set in the tire pressure warning ECU after 3 minutes or more. If normal pressure values are displayed, the IDs have been registered correctly. If the tire pressure values are not displayed after a few minutes, the IDs may be incorrect or the system may have a malfunction. After all IDs are registered, DTC C2126/26 *1 (Transmitter ID not Received in Main Mode) or C2127/27 *2 (Transmitter ID not Received in 2nd Mode) is set in the tire pressure warning ECU and the tire pressure warning light blinks for 1 minute and then comes on. When the tire pressure warning ECU successfully receives information from all the transmitters whose IDs are stored in the ECU, DTC C2126/26 *1 or C2127/27 *2 is deleted and the tire pressure warning light goes off. * 1: Main * 2: 2nd

Sensor Registration

Note. This procedure relies on the use of the Toyota Intelligent Tester or Techstream.

Note. It is necessary to register the transmitter ID in the tire pressure warning ECU when replacing the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter and/or tire pressure warning ECU. Before registration: In case of tire pressure warning ECU replacement. Read the registered transmitter IDs that are stored in the old ECU using the Intelligent Tester and note them down. If reading stored transmitter IDs is impossible due to malfunctions of components such as the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver, remove the tires from the wheels and check the IDs located on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters. In case of tire pressure warning valve and transmitter replacement. When replacing the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters, note down the IDs written on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters.

  1. Connect the Intelligent Tester to DLC3.
  2. Turn the engine switch ON.
  3. Turn the Intelligent Tester ON and enter the menu items in this order: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / CHASSIS / TIRE PRESSURE. Then, select the "UTILITY" item.
  4. Select the registration mode "MAIN".
  5. Input the IDs (ID1 to ID4 or ID5) using the Intelligent Tester and transmit them to the tire pressure warning ECU.
  6. The "ID Registration is complete" is displayed. NOTE: The tire pressure warning light will continue to blink until the tire pressure warning ECU receives the input ID signals. Registration can be performed during initialization. However, the initialization will be cancelled when the registration is started.

TPM Initialization

Note. Initialization is NOT required if re-inflating tires to the currently specified tire pressure.

Note. Before initialization, set the air pressure of all wheels, including the full-size spare tire, to the specified value. Perform the tire pressure adjustment after the vehicle has sufficiently cooled down. If the vehicle is not sufficiently cooled down, increase the air pressure by 20 to 30 kPa (0.2 to 0.3 kgf/cm2, 2.9 to 4.3 psi) above the specified value.

Note. Perform initialization in the following cases: After replacement of the tire pressure ECU. Perform initialization after the transmitter ID registration is completed. After replacement of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. Perform initialization after the transmitter ID registration is completed.

Note. Tire pressure warning light will not blink until the system initialization is complete.

  1. Turn the engine power switch to ON.
  2. On IS models: Repeatedly press either of the ARROW buttons on the TPMS reset switch until the initialization setting display appears. (Scheme 3) Then press and hold the ON/OFF button until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly 3 times to indicate that the initial setting is complete. On All Other Models: Press and hold the TPMS reset switch until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly 3 times. (Scheme 4) NOTE: Initialization will be completed if signals are received from all the wheels (including the spare tire).
  3. Turn the engine switch OFF.
  4. Wait for 2 or 3 minutes with the engine switch ON. NOTE: The initialization is normally completed within 2 to 3 minutes. If the initialization has not been completed successfully, DTC C2177/77 will be stored in the tire pressure warning ECU after a vehicle speed of at least 5 mph (8 km/h) for 20 minutes or more. The initialization can be terminated by making a short circuit between terminals TC and CG of the DLC3 connector.
  5. Confirm Initialization Has Been Completed: Check the data of tire pressure of all the wheels (including the ground spare tire) are displayed on the Techstream display to confirm that the initialization has been completed. Turn the engine switch off. Connect Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn Techstream on. Check the Data List. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List. If the values are not displayed after a few minutes, perform troubleshooting according to the inspection procedure for DTCs C2121/21 to C2125/25 (or DTCs C2131/31 to C2135/35) ).

Note. This procedure relies on the use of the Toyota Techstream.

Note. It is necessary to register the transmitter ID in the tire pressure warning ECU when replacing the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter and/or tire pressure warning ECU. Before registration: In case of tire pressure warning ECU replacement. Read the registered transmitter IDs that are stored in the old ECU using the Techstream and note them down. If reading stored transmitter IDs is impossible due to malfunctions of components such as the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver, remove the tires from the wheels and check the IDs located on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters. Note. If the ID registration step is not completed within 300 seconds, ID registration will be canceled.

  1. Set the air pressure of all tires to the specified value(s).
  2. Turn the power switch off.
  3. Connect the Techstream to DLC3.
  4. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and the Techstream on.
  5. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Utility / ID Registration.
  6. Perform the procedure displayed on the Techstream.
  7. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List.
  8. Read the "ID Tire Inflation Pressure" values.
  9. Confirm that the tire pressure data of all tires (except the spare tire) is displayed on the Techstream screen.

Note. Initialization is NOT required if re-inflating tires to the currently specified tire pressure.

Note. If the signals from all the wheels are received, initialization is completed. Initialization can be confirmed through the tire pressure warning light. Initialization is completed when the Data List "ID Tire Inflation Pressure" display shows the correct pressures. It may take up to a few minutes until the values are displayed. If the values are not displayed after a few minutes, perform troubleshooting according to the inspection procedure for DTCs C2121/21 to C2124/24. If initialization has not been completed successfully, DTC C2177/77 is stored after a vehicle speed of 8 km/h (5 mph) or more continues for 20 minutes or more. During test mode (sensor check mode), the system will not change to initialization mode even if the tire pressure warning reset switch is pushed.

Note. Before initialization, set the air pressure of all wheels to the specified value. Perform the tire pressure adjustment after the vehicle has sufficiently cooled down. If the vehicle is not sufficiently cooled down, increase the air pressure by 2.9 to 4.3 psi above the specified value.

Note. Tire pressure warning light will not blink until the system initialization is complete.

  1. Turn the power switch ON (IG).
  2. Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch for 3 seconds or more so that the tire pressure warning light blinks 3 times. (Scheme 4)
  3. Wait for a few minutes with the power switch in ON mode and turn the power switch OFF.
  4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  5. Turn the power switch ON (IG) and turn the Techstream ON.
  6. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List.
  7. Check that initialization has been completed.
  8. Confirm that the tire pressure data of all tires is displayed on the Techstream screen.
