PRECAUTION [04/2013 - ]

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.   2. PRECAUTION WHEN USING TECHSTREAM When using the Techstream with the engine switch off, connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the Techstream and the vehicle begins. Then select the vehicle type under manual mode and enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Access. While using the Techstream, periodically turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less to maintain communication between the Techstream and the vehicle.
  3. PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION If replacing any of the following parts, refer to the registration procedures. Refer to «REGISTRATION [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665555-S15306758692014102400000) Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) Steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) ECM Electrical key transmitter sub-assembly ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) Main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) When the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is replaced, the stored steering lock position will no longer match that of the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) and it may not be possible to start the engine. Therefore, after replacement, perform the following procedure. Move the shift lever to P. With the engine switch off, open and close a door, and then start the engine.

  2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS HINT: In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points for problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency, whether the problem occurred recently or has been occurring for a long time Where Whether the problem occurs at a specific location Under what conditions? Whether the doors were locked or unlocked, whether the engine switch was on (IG), whether the engine was running How did it happen? Problem symptoms* *: Be sure to ask the customer in detail about the following points concerning the vehicle operating conditions, environment and problem, and then check for DTCs. If the entry lock/unlock function does not operate for all doors. If the entry lock function does not operate. If the entry unlock function does not operate. If both the entry lock and unlock functions do not operate. If the wireless lock and unlock functions do not operate If there is no power even when the engine switch is pressed (does not turn on (ACC)). If the engine does not start with the push-button start function. If the outside warning buzzers do not sound. If an engine start was attempted by holding the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly near the engine switch and then pressing the engine switch. If the interior warning buzzers do not sound. If the steering does not unlock. Any other details concerning the problem. If it is suspected that wave interference is likely, be sure to ask the customer in detail about the following points concerning the vehicle operating conditions, environment and problem. Specific locations where the system does not operate (such as near TV towers, large video displays, wireless garage door opener systems, wireless security cameras, home security systems, etc.). Specific times when the system does not operate: If the symptoms occurred immediately after purchase or only recently. If the symptoms occurred even when the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly was near the vehicle (electrical key antenna). If the system does not operate only when near specific vehicles (there may be wave interference from the wireless systems of other vehicles). If the system operates intermittently. If the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is bundled together with other items. If the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is carried together with other electronic devices, such as cell phones, personal computers, portable music players, other electrical keys, etc. (keep the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly at least 0.1 m (0.33 ft.) away from such items). Where the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is being kept when not in use: If the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is being placed within 1 m (3.28 ft.) of items such as TVs, DVD recorders, induction cookers, rice cookers, dishwashers, modems, cell phones, personal computers, microwave ovens, desk or floor lamps, cordless telephones, etc. If there are electronic devices that transmit radio waves placed in the vehicle.   1. OPERATION DESCRIPTION NOTE: Make sure that the smart access system with push-button start (for Start Function) has not been canceled before performing this inspection. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665539-S26707182722014102400000) Push-button start function: When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in a detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal is depressed, the engine is started by pressing the engine switch. When the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in a detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal is not depressed, the power source mode is changed by pressing the engine switch. The power source mode changes in the following order every time the engine switch is pressed: off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off. After getting into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly when the engine switch is off, if the engine switch is pressed while not depressing the brake pedal, the power source mode changes to on (ACC) and "ACCESSORY" is displayed on the multi-information display. *a "ACCESSORY" Display After getting into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly when the engine switch is off, if the engine switch is pressed 2 times without depressing the brake pedal, the power source mode changes to on (IG) and "IGNITION ON" is displayed on the multi-information display. *A for F SPORT Models *B except F SPORT Models *a "IGNITION ON" Display After getting into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly when the engine switch is off, if the brake pedal is depressed while the shift lever is in P, the key indicator is displayed on the multi-information display. *A for F SPORT Models (Movable meter ring not activated) *B for F SPORT Models (Movable meter ring activated) *C except F SPORT Models *a Key Indicator Display The engine will start if the engine switch is pressed when the key indicator is displayed.   2. CHECK PUSH-BUTTON START FUNCTION Check the push-button start function: Get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly with the engine switch off. With the shift lever in P, check that the key indicator is displayed when the brake pedal is depressed. Check that the engine starts when the engine switch is pressed after the key indicator is displayed on the multi-information display. *A for F SPORT Models (Movable meter ring not activated) *B for F SPORT Models (Movable meter ring activated) *C except F SPORT Models *a Key Indicator Display While the brake pedal is released and the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is being carried, check that the power source mode changes in the following order when the engine switch is pressed: off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off. HINT: When the engine switch is pressed with the engine switch on (IG) and the shift lever not in P, the power source mode does not change to off, but changes to on (ACC). With the shift lever in P, check that the steering lock operates when a door is opened. HINT: When the engine switch is pressed after the vehicle is stopped, the engine stops and all the power turns off. However, if the shift lever is not in P when the engine switch is pressed with the vehicle stopped, the power source mode does not change to off, but changes to on (ACC). Check the push-button start function operation range for the front side. Place the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly at either inspection point so that it is facing the direction shown in the illustration, and then check that the engine can be started. *a Inspection Point NOTE: Even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in a vehicle interior key detection area, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not be properly detected if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is on the instrument panel, in the glove box or on the floor. HINT: Communication may not be possible if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is within 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) of the shift lever. Perform this inspection for both inspection points. Check the push-button start function operation range for the rear side. Place the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly at either inspection point so that it is facing the direction shown in the illustration, and then check that the engine can be started. *a Inspection Point NOTE: Even if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in a vehicle interior key detection area, the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly may not be properly detected if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is on the instrument panel, in the glove box or on the floor. HINT: Communication may not be possible if the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is within 0.2 m (0.656 ft.) of the center of the rear seat. Perform this inspection for both inspection points.
  3. CHECK TRANSMITTER BATTERY SAVING MODE FUNCTION Check the transmitter battery saving mode function: Press the unlock switch of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly twice while pressing the lock switch and check that the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly LED blinks 4 times and enters transmitter battery saving mode. Check that the smart access system with push-button start (for Start Function) does not operate while in transmitter battery saving mode. HINT: To cancel transmitter battery saving mode, press a switch of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.
  4. CHECK POWER SOURCE MODE CHANGING FUNCTION Check the engine switch. Check that the power source mode changes according to the chart below. If the ID codes match each other, the vehicle recognizes that the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is in the cabin.

CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [04/2013 - ]

  1. CUSTOMIZE SMART ACCESS SYSTEM WITH PUSH-BUTTON START (for Start Function) HINT: The following items can be customized. NOTE: When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that the function can be customized. Record the current settings before customizing. Customizing with the Techstream Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Customize Setting / Smart Key / Access or Warning. Select the setting by referring to the table below. Smart Key / Access Tester Display Description Default Setting ECU Ignition Available Area Function that sets the area that the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly must be in before the engine switch can be operated. All 00:Front, 01:All Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) Engine Start Indicator Function that turns the key indicator on the multi-information display on or off. ON 0:OFF, 1:ON Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) Warning Tester Display Description Default Setting ECU Key Low Battery Warning Enables or disables the sounding of the buzzer when the transmitter battery is low and the engine switch is turned off after being on (IG) for 20 minutes or more. The following functions are disabled when the smart access system with push-button start is canceled. Entry unlock/lock functions Push-button start function Key lock-in prevention function Entry warning functions When canceling the smart access system with push-button start through manual operation: Make sure the following conditions are met: The engine switch is off. The driver door is closed. The driver door is unlocked. Press the unlock switch of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly. Open the driver door within 5 seconds of completing the step above (driver door: closed --> opened). With the driver door open, press the unlock switch of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly 2 times within 5 seconds of completing the step above. NOTE: If the driver door is closed before or while pressing the unlock switch, the entry cancel setting mode will end. Perform the following procedure within 30 seconds of completing the step above. Close and open the driver door twice (driver door: open --> closed --> opened --> closed --> opened). With the driver door open, press the unlock switch of the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly 2 times. NOTE: If the driver door is closed before or while pressing the unlock switch, the entry cancel setting mode will end. Close and open the driver door (driver door: open --> closed --> opened). Close the driver door within 5 seconds (driver door: open --> closed). Check that the wireless buzzer sounds twice (short beeps) to confirm that the smart access system with push-button start has been canceled. Perform the following procedure to restore the smart access system with push-button start to the active state from the canceled state. Perform the procedure to cancel the smart access system with push-button start again. Check that the wireless buzzer sounds once (short beep) to confirm that the smart access system with push-button start has been restored to the active state. HINT: The system changes between the canceled state and the active state each time the procedure to cancel the system through manual operation is performed. The buzzer sounds twice when the system changes from the active state to the canceled state, and sounds once when the system changes from the canceled state to the active state.
