PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [04/2013 - ]

Note. If the battery voltage is low, the PTC heater may not operate. When "Operation of Electrical Items Restricted." is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly, inspect the battery, referring to On-vehicle Inspection for the charging system. for 2GR-FSE: Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [04/2013 - ] for 4GR-FSE: Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [04/2013 - ] If the battery voltage is low, the PTC heater may not operate. When "Operation of Electrical Items Restricted." is not displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly, check the Data List item "Battery Control Count (Body ECU)". Refer to DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST [04/2013 - ]

HINT

  1. Use the table below to help determine the cause of problem symptoms. If multiple suspected areas are listed, the potential causes of the symptoms are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column of the table. Check each symptom by checking the suspected areas in the order they are listed. Replace parts as necessary.
  2. Inspect the fuses and relays related to this system before inspecting the suspected areas below.

  1. DESCRIPTION Air conditioning system data and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be read through the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. When the system seems to be malfunctioning, use the Techstream to check for malfunctions and perform troubleshooting.
  2. CHECK DLC3 Check the DLC3. Refer to «GENERAL INFORMATION [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665529-S26412111322014102400000)
  3. LIST OF OPERATION METHODS By operating each of the air conditioning control switches as shown in the diagram below, it is possible to enter diagnostic check mode.
  4. INDICATOR CHECK Turn the engine switch off. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and press the air conditioning control assembly AUTO and recirculation/fresh switches simultaneously within 5 seconds. The indicator check is automatically performed when panel diagnosis is activated. Check that the indicators light up and go off 4 times at 1 second intervals continuously. HINT: The sensor check automatically starts when the indicator check is completed. Press the OFF switch to cancel check mode. *a Indicator Blinking Pattern *b ON *c OFF *d 1 Sec.
  5. SENSOR CHECK (DTC CHECK) Perform the indicator check. HINT: After the indicator check is completed, the system enters DTC check mode automatically. Read the DTCs displayed on the display. *A w/ Navigation System *B w/ Audio and Visual System *a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) - - NOTE: In sensor check mode, which is automatically entered after indicator check mode, troubleshooting may be partially performed. Be sure to perform the sensor check again. HINT: Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code Table for details of the codes. Refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665545-S18628907692014102400000) When there are no problems, DTC 00 is output. As an example, the illustration shows that DTC 12 is output. If the DTCs are difficult to read because they change automatically, Press the driver side TEMP up switch to display the steps one at a time so that they can be read easily. The items are displayed step by step each time the driver side TEMP up switch is pressed. HINT: Press the OFF switch to finish panel diagnosis. Clear DTCs. During the sensor check, press the front defroster switch and rear defogger switch simultaneously.

DTC CHECK/CLEAR [04/2013 - ]

  1. DTC CHECK USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes. Check for DTCs. Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes
  2. DTC CLEAR USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes. Clear DTCs. Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Clear DTCs

Scheme 33: CHECK MODE PROCEDURE [04/2013 - ]
  1. REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE CHECK IN NORMAL OPERATION (CHECK A/C SWITCH INDICATOR AND DTC) Start the engine. Check that the A/C switch indicator remains on when the following conditions are met. MEASUREMENT CONDITION Item Condition A/C switch On A/C operation time 15 minutes or more Ambient temperature* 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F) Engine coolant temperature 45°C (113°F) or more *: If the ambient temperature is not within the range shown, do not perform this check. HINT: The A/C switch indicator and air conditioning system turn off if the amount of refrigerant in the system is insufficient. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Check for DTC B14B8. RESULT Result Amount of Refrigerant Corrective Action DTC B14B8 is output Empty or nearly empty Check for refrigerant leaks using a halogen leak detector, and repair if necessary. Refer to «DTC B14B8: Refrigerant Shortage [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665827-S30128655832014102400000) DTC B14B8 is not output Correct or insufficient Perform a refrigerant shortage check using the Techstream. Refer to «REPLACEMENT [04/2013 - ]»(ref-665718-S29281733902014102400000)
  2. REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE CHECK USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Utility / Refrigerant Gas Volume Check. Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Utility Tester Display Refrigerant Gas Volume Check According to the display on the Techstream, perform the refrigerant shortage check when the following conditions are met. MEASUREMENT CONDITION Item Condition A/C switch On Ambient temperature* 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F) Blower speed HI *: If the ambient temperature is not within the range shown, do not perform this check. HINT: Refer to the Techstream operator's manual for further details. A message indicating a refrigerant shortage is displayed on the Techstream and the air conditioning system turns off if the amount of refrigerant in the system is insufficient. DTCs are not stored when performing the refrigerant shortage check using the Techstream. RESULT Result Amount of Refrigerant Corrective Action Refrigerant shortage Insufficient or leakage Check for refrigerant leaks using a halogen leak detector, and repair if necessary. Evacuate the air conditioning system and charge it with the appropriate volume of new or purified refrigerant. DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST [04/2013 - ]

  1. DATA LIST Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. NOTE: In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Data List. Check the value(s) by referring to the table below.
