SYSTEM NAME DESCRIPTION

  1. PRECAUTION OF HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT When any defect such as deformation, cracks, dents, chipping, etc. is identified on the discharge headlight (especially, on the light control ECU), replace it with a new one. Even if the operation seems to be normal, the fail-safe function may be defective. Since bulbs of the discharge headlight and halogen bulbs (for headlight and fog light) have pressurized gas inside and can easily be broken if scratched or dropped, special care should be taken. When handling the bulb, hold the plastic or metal part and do not touch the glass part with bare hands. Never touch the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight with the headlight dimmer switch ON, as this could generate 20,000 V and lead to a serious accident. Never connect a tester to the high voltage socket of the discharge headlight for measurement, as this may lead to a serious accident because of high voltage. When performing operations related to the discharge headlight, keep it away from water such as rain, turn off the light control switch, and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and the connector of the light control ECU in advance to avoid electric shock. When performing operations related to the discharge headlight, operate it after assembling has been finished and never operate it without a bulb installed. Only illuminate the discharge headlight using the vehicle's power source.

Various switches or sensors are represented as being inputs for the different systems mentioned in the information. Where direct electrical connections do not exist between components, signals may be carried across the different networks (BEAN, CAN) that exist on the vehicle. If a signal needs to travel from the CAN network to the BEAN network, the Gateway ECU allows the signal to travel between these different networks. Some of these different signals can be confirmed or inspected using the Intelligent Tester.

Be sure to record the current value before customizing. In case of performing the troubleshooting, pay attention as there is a possibility that the function is OFF by customizing. (Example: In case of the symptom in which "The wireless operation does not function", check that the wireless operation is not OFF by customizing, then perform the troubleshooting.)

FAIL-SAFE CHART

  1. FAIL-SAFE Light control ECU The light control ECU executes the fail-safe actions listed below in accordance with the item that has been detected. ITEM OUTLINE Item Outline Detection of Abnormal Input Voltage If voltage that is input to light control ECU deviates from operating voltage (9 to 16 V), ECU stops illuminating headlights, and resumes illuminating headlight once the voltage reverts to the operating voltage range However, if input voltage decreases after headlights have illuminated, headlight will remain illuminated until the bulbs are extinguished Detection of Abnormal Output (open or short circuit) or Flashing Bulb If abnormal condition (open or short circuit) occurs in voltage that is output by light control ECU, or if bulb flashes, ECU stops illuminating headlights and will maintain this state until power is reinstated (by turning headlight control switch from ON or OFF) Detection of Bulb Open If bulb is not inserted in its socket, ECU stops generating high voltage until bulb is inserted correctly and power is reinstated (by turning headlight control switch from OFF to ON or turning engine switch from off to on (IG)) AFS ECU HINT: If a malfunction is detected, the headlight swivel ECU assembly (AFS ECU) performs fail-safe operation. Depending on the malfunction, the ECU flashes at 1 Hz intervals or illuminates the AFS OFF indicator in the combination meter assembly.
