  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  3. REMOVE STEERING PAD HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the steering pad. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-398090-S26685784732011051600000) .
  4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY See step 3
  5. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break. Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 4 claws. Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws. HINT: Spread the claws to disengage them. Using a screwdriver, insert the tip into each service hole to disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Service Hole *2 Protective Tape HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  6. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the instrument panel cluster finish panel from the upper steering column cover. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 pins to remove the upper steering column cover.
  7. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  8. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the brake pedal support assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-398212-S24863909822011051600000) .
  9. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Disengage the 2 claws to remove the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.
  10. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.
  11. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

  1. INSPECT PRELOAD Secure the steering column assembly in a vise. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Steering Wheel Assembly Set Nut *2 Service Nut NOTE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it. Install a service nut to the steering main shaft. Recommended Service Nut Thread Diameter Thread Pitch 12.0 mm (0.472 in.) 1.25 mm (0.0492 in.) Install the steering wheel assembly set nut to the steering main shaft. Lock the steering wheel assembly set nut using the service nut. Using a torque wrench, turn the main shaft and measure the preload. Preload Torque: 0.91 to 1.45 N*m (10 to 14 kgf*cm, 8 to 12 in.*lbf) If the preload is not as specified, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.
  2. INSPECT BUSHING Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Bushing If the bushings are missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

  1. INSPECT BUSHING See step 2
  2. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly to install the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Install the bolt. Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)
  3. INSTALL STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Install the steering post assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts. Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Connect the connectors and engage the wire harness clamps to the steering post assembly.
  4. INSTALL NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Engage the 2 claws to install the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.
  5. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY HINT: Refer to the instructions for Installation of the brake pedal support assembly. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-398212-S16200934382011051600000) .
  6. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  7. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Using pliers, expand the clamp. While holding the clamp expanded, install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly and engage the claw. Return the clamp to its original position. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  8. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Engage the 2 claws and 2 pins to install the upper steering column cover. Engage the 4 clips and 2 guides to install the instrument panel cluster finish panel to the upper steering column cover.
  9. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: If the lower steering column cover is installed in the incorrect order, it will not be possible to assemble the lower steering column cover. Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover. Engage the 4 claws. Engage the 2 claws. HINT: Press the area around the claws to engage them.
  10. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  11. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 8»(ref-398090-S05069805092011051600000)

  1. PRECAUTION NOTE: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to «PRECAUTION»(ref-398211-S14154149922011051600000) .
  2. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System) NOTE: After the power switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-398292-S10123662792011051600000) . NOTE: Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto away/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation. HINT: Performing the above operation disables the auto away/return function when the power switch is turned off. Turn the power switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly. Turn the power switch off. Open the front luggage compartment trim cover and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
  5. REMOVE STEERING PAD HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the steering pad. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-398090-S26685784732011051600000) .
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY See step 3
  7. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING COLUMN COVER Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws to remove the lower No. 2 steering column cover. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Protective Tape HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: Removing the lower steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the parts to break. Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 4 claws. Insert fingers into the opening of the lower steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws. HINT: Spread the claws to disengage them. Using a screwdriver, insert the tip into each service hole to disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration.   9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER w/ Driver Monitor Camera: Disconnect the driver monitor camera connector. Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the instrument panel cluster finish panel from the upper steering column cover. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 pins to remove the upper steering column cover.
  10. REMOVE DRIVER MONITOR CAMERA (w/ Driver Monitor Camera) . Refer to «REMOVAL - Step 7»(ref-398296-S04706010652011051600000)
  11. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, expand the clamp. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Clamp *2 Claw While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  12. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY HINT: Refer to the instructions for Removal of the brake pedal support assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-398212-S24863909822011051600000) .
  13. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY See step 9
  14. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.
  15. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
  16. REMOVE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU Remove the nut and multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU from the steering column assembly.

  11. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER NOTE: If the lower steering column cover is installed in the incorrect order, it will not be possible to assemble the lower steering column cover. Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover. Engage the 4 claws. Engage the 2 claws. HINT: Press the area around the claws to engage them.
  12. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING COLUMN COVER Engage the 4 claws to install the lower No. 2 steering column cover to the lower steering column cover.

NOTE: Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead. Reset the auto away/return function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter. Refer to «CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS»(ref-398292-S10123662792011051600000) .
  19. INSPECT STEERING PAD . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 6»(ref-398090-S01085879482011051600000)

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Matchmark Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Turn *2 Hold SST: 09950-50013 09951-05010 09952-05010 09953-05020 09955-04071 NOTE: Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.
  4. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY See step 2

  7. REMOVE LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Disengage the 2 pins and 2 claws to remove the lower steering wheel boss cover from the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  8. REMOVE STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Remove the 2 steering pad attaching screws from the lower steering wheel boss cover.

INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Install the 2 steering pad attaching screws to the lower steering wheel boss cover.
  2. INSTALL LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Engage the 2 pins and 2 claws to install the lower steering wheel boss cover to the steering wheel sub-assembly.
  3. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE
  4. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-398095-S05306314652011051600000)
  5. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY See step 1
  6. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  2. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (RH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly. Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 claws and pin to remove the steering pad switch assembly (LH side) from the steering wheel sub-assembly.

Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) Connect the 2 connectors to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU. Engage the wire harness clamp to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
