SYSTEM OUTLINE
In this system, the wireless door lock control ECU receives weak radio wave transmitted from the transmitter built-into the ignition key and outputs the signal to the body ECU No. 2. Through communication control of the body ECUs and door ECUs etc., all the doors and the luggage door can be locked and unlocked by the remote control.
Auto Lock Function
If the door is not actually opened within 30 seconds after the door has been unlocked by pressing the unlock switch on the transmitter, all the doors are automatically locked. If any of the following conditions are detected, the auto lock does not function.
- Any door is opened.
- The ignition key is inserted into the ignition switch.
- When the lock detection switch of all the doors are locked.
Buzzer Sound Function
When the body ECU No. 1 receives the door lock signal from the door ECU via the door lock motor, during lock operation, the wireless door lock buzzer goes on once for approximately 0.1 second.
When the body ECU No. 1 receives the door unlock signal from the door ECU via the door lock motor, during unlock operation, the wireless door lock buzzer goes on twice for approximately 0.2 second at intervals of 0.1 second.
When the luggage door is unlocked and the body ECU No. 1 outputs the unlock signal, the wireless door lock buzzer goes on once for approximately 0.5 second.
When the body ECU No. 1 receives the lock signal from the transmitter while any door is open, the wireless door lock buzzer sounds for approximately 10 seconds. If the door is closed or if the unlock signal is received from the transmitter while the buzzer is sounding, the buzzer stops.
Car Finder Function
When the lock switch on the transmitter is pressed with all the doors locked, the body ECU No. 1 receives the signal and the hazard light flashes once through communication control of the body ECU and door ECU etc.
Illuminated Entry Function
When the body ECU No. 2 detects the unlock state after the unlock operation has been made, it turns on the lights, such as the ignition key cylinder light for 15 seconds. If all the doors are locked during this operation, lighting is cancelled and the lights immediately fade out.
Panic Mode Function
When the lock switch on the transmitter is kept pressed for approximately 2.5 seconds, the body ECU No. 1 receives the signal and enters the panic mode. The anti-theft alarm goes on upon receiving the signal, the body ECU No. 1, and the headlights and taillights flash through the communication of the body ECU and door ECU etc. At this time, when any switch on the transmitter is pressed, the panic mode is cancelled, the anti-theft alarm is stopped, and the headlights and taillights go off.
Repeat Function
If the lock detection signal is a response to the output signal is not received after the body ECU No. 1 has output the lock signal, the lock signal is output again after approximately 2 seconds.
Wireless Door Lock Stop Function
If any of the following conditions is detected, the wireless door lock does not function.
- Lock Operation - Any door is open (the door courtesy switch is on). The ignition key is inserted into the ignition key cylinder (the unlock warning switch is on). The ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
- Unlock Operation - The ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
- Luggage Door Unlock Operation - The ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL
Note. This feature can be deactivated as an anti-theft measure if the wireless remote control key is lost.
When you operate any button on the key, push it slowly and surely. At this time, the indicator light on the key grip flashes once. The operational range of the wireless remote control is approximately 3 feet (1 meter). The effective range may vary with different conditions.
In the following cases, the battery in the key may be discharged. If this is the case, replace it using a special screwdriver. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL TRANSMITTER BATTERY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- The remote control does not work.
- The operational range of the wireless remote control becomes extremely short.
- The indicator light on the key is dimmed or does not come on.
You can use up to 4 wireless remote control keys for the same vehicle. The wireless remote control key is an electronic component. Observe the following instructions in order not to cause damage to the key.
- Do not leave the wireless remote control key on places where the temperature becomes high, such as on the dashboard.
- Do not disassemble it.
- Avoid knocking it hard against other objects or dropping it.
- Avoid putting it in water.
Locking/Unlocking Doors
Note. Do not push the LOCK button any longer than 2-3 seconds. Pushing the button longer activates an alarm.
- Locking - When you push the LOCK button on the key briefly, all the doors can be locked from outside the vehicle. When they are locked securely, the emergency flashers will flash and 1 beep will sound (the emergency flashers can be set not to flash and the beep volume can be changed). However, when you push the LOCK button with any door not closed securely, the buzzer sounds for 10 seconds (the buzzer can be set not to sound if a door is not closed securely). To stop the buzzer , close all the doors securely or push the UNLOCK button. If the key is in the ignition switch, locking cannot be done. Make sure all the doors are locked when you leave the vehicle. Push the LOCK button once again. If they were already locked, the turn signal lights will flash (the turn signal lights can be set not to flash.
- Unlocking - When you push the UNLOCK button, the driver's door is unlocked. Pushing that button again once again within 3 seconds from the first push, all the doors are also unlocked (the 2-step unlocking function can be changed). At this time, the emergency flashers will flash twice and 2 beeps will sound (the emergency flashers can be set not to flash and the beep volume can be changed). Together with the activation of unlocking, the interior light comes on for 15 seconds if the interior light switch is in the DOOR position (the interior light can be set not to come on or the duration of lighting can be changed). However, this function does not work when the ignition key is in the ON position. You have 30 seconds to open a door after using the wireless remote unlock feature (the time before automatic relocking can be changed). If a door is not opened by then, all the doors will be automatically locked again. Even if the LOCK or UNLOCK switch is kept pressed in, the locking or unlocking operation is not repeated. Release the button and then push again.
Operating Windows & Moon Roof
The windows and moon roof can be operated using a wireless key from outside the vehicle. The windows can be deactivated and the moon roof can be set to slide open, tilt up or be deactivated. Push the UNLOCK button until the windows and moon roof start to move. When you release the button, the windows and moon roof stop operating.
Sounding Alarm
When you push the PANIC button for about 2-3 seconds, an alarm sounds to deter any person trying to break into or damage your vehicle. The alarm can be set not to sound. If you want to stop the alarm, push any button. This function does not work when the ignition key is in the ON position.
Unlocking Trunk
When you keep the button pushed for about 1 second, you can unlock the trunk lid (the operation method can be changed). One beep sounds. This function does not work when the ignition key is in the ON position.
REMOTE TRANSMITTER RECOGNITION CODE REGISTRATION
Note. When replacing the door lock control receiver and transmitter, registration of the recognition code is necessary because they are provided as single components.
- Select which mode should be performed from the following modes: Add Mode - The add mode is used to retain codes already registered while you register new recognition codes. This mode is used when adding a transmitter. However, if the number of registered codes exceed 4 codes, previously registered codes are correspondingly erased in order, starting from the first registered code. Rewrite Mode - The rewrite mode is used to erase all previously registered codes and register only new recognition codes. Prohibition Mode - The prohibition mode is used to erase all registered codes and cancels the wireless door lock function. Use this mode when the transmitter is lost. Confirmation Mode - The confirmation mode is for confirming how many recognition codes are already registered before you register additional recognition codes.
- Register the transmitter recognition code at the wireless door lock control receiver. (Scheme 57)- (Scheme 59).

WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER CIRCUIT

- Connector Disconnected - Disconnect the connector from the receiver and inspect the connector on the wire harness side. - Connector Connected - Inspect the wireless door lock control receiver circuit. Connect the wire harness side connector to the receiver and inspect the wire harness side connector from the back side. If the circuit is as specified, replace the receiver. If the circuit is not as specified, inspect the circuits connected to other parts. WIRELESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER
Inspect the wireless door lock buzzer operation. Connect the positive (+) lead from the ohmmeter to terminal No. 1 and the negative (-) lead to terminal No. 2, and measure resistance of approximately 1 k ohm. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If the resistance is not as specified, replace the buzzer.
WIRELESS DOOR LOCK TRANSMITTER
- Remove the wireless door lock control transmitter battery. See «WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL TRANSMITTER BATTERY»(ref-153097-S41449406112003031700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. When a new or normal battery cannot be obtained, connect 2 new 1.5 volt batteries in series, connect the battery (+) to the battery receptacle side terminal and battery (-) to the bottom terminal, then apply 3 volts to the transmitter. see scheme 12
- In the location approximately 3 feet away from the driver's outside handle in the right direction, face the key plate of the transmitter to the vehicle, and check the transmitter operation when pressing transmission switch on the side of the transmitter body. The standard results of the wireless door lock transmitter is that the remote control of the vehicle door lock can be operated and the LED lights up more than once.
- Install the wireless door lock control transmitter battery. See «WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL TRANSMITTER BATTERY»(ref-153097-S41449406112003031700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

WIRELESS DOOR LOCK TRANSMITTER BATTERY
- Check the battery capacity.
- Remove the screws and cover using a (-) driver and remove the lithium battery from the transmitter.
- Connect the lead to the (-) terminal of the transmitter and install the battery.
- Connect the (+) tester to the (+) lithium battery, and (-) tester to the lead respectively.
- Press one of the transmitting switches on the transmitter for approximately 1 second. Press the transmitting switch on the transmitter again to check the voltage (2.1 volts or more).
- Disconnect the lead and set the lithium battery in the transmitter.
- Install the cover, so that the "O" ring is not distorted or slipped off and tighten the screws.

Note. Dispose of the used batteries according to the local laws.
Note. When replacing the battery, prepare a lithium battery CR1616 and a special screwdriver.
