PRECAUTION [06/2012 - ]

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE NOTE: When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following system after the cable is reconnected: System See Procedure Parking Assist Monitor System Refer to «INITIALIZATION [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598449-S08309221792014021400000) Power Trunk Lid System

INITIALIZATION [06/2012 - ]

Note. Initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly when the headlight leveling ECU assembly is replaced. Initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly (set the zero point of the height control sensor in the headlight leveling ECU assembly) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of suspension components or after performing operations such as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly. Adjust the headlight aim after initializing the headlight leveling ECU assembly. Refer to ADJUSTMENT [06/2012 - ] . When a malfunction is detected in the automatic headlight beam level control system, height control sensor signal initialization is impossible. Perform troubleshooting before initialization.

  1. PREPARE VEHICLE FOR INITIALIZATION Unload the trunk and vehicle, ensuring that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions. Check that there are no occupants in the vehicle. Turn off the headlights. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and keep the vehicle height unchanged. NEXT: Go to next step
  2. CHECK HEADLIGHT LEVELING INDICATOR LIGHT Turn the engine switch on (IG), and check the indicator light. OK Condition Specified Condition The headlight leveling ECU assembly has been replaced with a new one. Indicator light repeatedly blinks 6 times at 2 Hz. Replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly, replacement of the suspension, etc. have been performed. Indicator light comes on for approximately 3 seconds, and then goes off (bulb check function). HINT: If the indicator light does not come on when turning the engine switch on (IG), inspect and repair it according to Problem Symptoms Table. Refer to «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [06/2012 - ]»(ref-598482-S06560528582014021400000) . NG --> GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE OK: Go to next step
  3. INITIALIZATION Connect SST to terminals 4 (CG) and 8 (LVL) of the DLC3. SST: 09843-18040 Turn the low beam headlights on and off using the light control switch within 20 seconds after connecting the terminals. HINT: The number of times the low beam headlights need to be turned on and off is determined by the present fuel level as shown below. Fuel Level Number of Times to Turn Low Beam Headlights On and Off Fuel level is within A range. 1 Fuel level is within B range. 2 Fuel level is within C range. 3 Fuel level is within D range. 4 Fuel level is within E range. 5 NOTE: Turn the low beam headlights on and off at intervals of less than 3 seconds. Be sure to operate the light control switch from outside the vehicle. Check the indicator light. OK Condition Specified Condition The headlight leveling ECU assembly has been replaced with a new one. Blinks 6 times at 2 Hz --> Repeatedly blinks N*1 times at 2 Hz. Replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly, removal and reinstallation of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly, replacement of the suspension, etc. have been performed. Off --> Repeatedly blinks N*1 times at 2 Hz. HINT: *1: The number of times that the indicator blinks is determined by the number of times the low beam headlights are turned on and off. If initialization does not finish normally, disconnect SST from the DLC3 and turn the engine switch off. Then, restart initialization from step 1. NG --> GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE OK --> TURN ENGINE SWITCH OFF (END)

FAIL-SAFE CHART [06/2012 - ]

  1. AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM The headlight leveling ECU assembly operates in fail-safe mode if an abnormal condition such as those listed below has been detected, and keeps the last low beam status. Item Abnormality Detection Condition Return Condition Warning Indicator Height control sensor power source voltage Abnormal height control sensor power source voltage (4.6 V or less, or 6.25 V or more) is detected. Abnormal voltage is not detected for 5 seconds consecutively Illuminated Height control sensor signal voltage Abnormal height control sensor signal voltage (0.25 V or less, or 4.75 V or more) is detected. High power source voltage Abnormal high IG supply voltage (18.5 V or more) is detected. Voltage of 17.5 V or less is detected Not illuminated Low power source voltage Abnormal low IG supply voltage (9.0 V or less) is detected. Voltage of 9.3 V or more is detected for 0.1 seconds consecutively Not illuminated Reset while running Reset by a temporary loss of power etc. while driving. Vehicle is stopped Not illuminated
