SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. REAR SUNSHADE SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The rear sunshade is raised or lowered by operating the rear sunshade switch located in the lower instrument panel sub-assembly. When the shift lever in the R position, the park/neutral position switch sends a reverse-linked signal to the rear sunshade relay, and the rear sunshade lowers. When the shift lever is moved to the D or S position, or when the vehicle speed is 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or more, the rear sunshade is redeployed. Using the intelligent tester, the reverse-linked sunshade lowering function's response time can be customized to one of the following (seconds): 0, 0.7, 0.9, 1.2.

When the rear sunshade switch is pressed, a signal is sent directly to the rear sunshade relay.

  1. INSPECT FUSE (GAUGE NO. 1) Remove the GAUGE NO. 1 fuse from the instrument panel J/B. Measure the resistance of the fuse. Standard resistance: Below 1 ohms NG: REPLACE FUSE OK: Go to Next Step
  2. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COWL SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK LH - RELAY, BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) Disconnect the L24 relay connector. Disconnect the E58 main body ECU connector. Disconnect the E75 rear sunshade switch connector. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors. Standard resistance RESISTANCE REFERENCE Tester connection Specified condition REV (L24-2) - RSSR (E58-3) Below 1 ohms SW (L24-3) - E75-3 Below 1 ohms E (L24-5) - Body ground Below 1 ohms REV (L24-2) - E (L24-5) 10 kohms or higher SW (L24-3) - E (L24-5) 10 kohms or higher Turn the engine switch on (IG). Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector. Standard voltage VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION Tester connection Specified condition IG (L24-1) - Body ground 10 to 14 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to Next Step
  3. INSPECT REAR SUNSHADE SWITCH Disconnect the connector from the rear sunshade switch. Measure the resistance between the terminals according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard resistance RESISTANCE REFERENCE Tester connection Condition Specified condition E75-3 (ECU) - E75-2 (E) Rear sunshade switch is pressed Below 1 ohms E75-3 (ECU) - E75-2 (E) Rear sunshade switch is not pressed 10 kohms or higher NG: REPLACE REAR SUNSHADE SWITCH OK: REPLACE REAR SUNSHADE RELAY

When the engine switch is on (IG) and the rear sunshade is raised, moving the shift lever to the R position causes the park/neutral position switch to send a reverse-linked signal to the main body ECU through the ECM (the ECM and main body ECU communicate via CAN). Then the main body ECU sends the signal to the rear sunshade relay. The relay then lowers the rear sunshade.

  1. CHECK OPERATION Check that the back-up light comes on when the shift lever is moved to the R position. OK: Back-up light comes on when shift lever is moved to R position. NG: GO TO «LIGHTING SYSTEM»(ref-283105-S16979268022008041700000) OK: Go to Next Step
  2. CHECK REAR SUNSHADE RELAY Disconnect the L24 rear sunshade relay connector. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector. Standard voltage VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION Tester connection Condition Specified condition REV (L24-2) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG), shift lever not in R Below 1 V REV (L24-2) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG), shift lever in R 10 to 14 V NG: Go to step 3 OK: REPLACE REAR SUNSHADE RELAY
  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MAIN BODY ECU - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) Disconnect the E58 main body ECU connector. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connector. Standard voltage VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION Tester connection Condition Specified condition RSSR (E58-3) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG), shift lever not in R Below 1 V RSSR (E58-3) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG), shift lever in R 10 to 14 V NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: Go to Next Step
  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (REAR SUNSHADE RELAY - MAIN BODY ECU) Disconnect the L24 relay connector. Disconnect the E58 main body ECU connector. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors. Standard resistance RESISTANCE REFERENCE Tester connection Condition Specified condition REV (L24-2) - RSSR (E58-3) Always Below 1 ohms NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR OK: REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
