PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

Verify customer complaint by operating system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary.

INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR INSPECTION

  1. Inspect the electro chromic inside rear view mirror operation. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal No. 1 and the negative (-) lead to terminal No. 2. (Scheme 5) Attach a black colored tape to the forward sensor to prevent if from sensing. Light up the mirror with an electric light and check that the mirror surface changes from bright to dark.
  2. If operation is not as specified, replace the inside rear view mirror. See «INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S00399611012003012300000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.

OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR INSPECTION

  1. Inspect the outside rear view mirror switch assembly. (Scheme 6)
  2. On power mirrors without memory, inspect left hand and right hand outside rear view mirror operation. (Scheme 7)
  3. On power mirrors with memory, inspect left hand and right hand outside rear view mirror operation. (Scheme 8)
  4. Inspect the ACC relay. (Scheme 9)

Circuit Description

While a switch signal of the power mirrors is transmitted to the mirror ECU as well. (Scheme 10) This time the power mirrors face upward and downward or right and left.

Inspection Procedure

  1. Check the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly. (Scheme 11) If the connector is OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-152222-S30771138142003012200000). If the connector is not OK, go to the next step.
  2. On vehicles with memory, check the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly. (Scheme 12) If the connector is OK, go to the next step. If the connector is not OK, replace the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  3. Check the outside rear view mirror control ECU and the left hand outside rear view mirror wiring harness. (Scheme 13) If the wiring harness is OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-152222-S30771138142003012200000). If the wiring harness is not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
  4. Check the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. (Scheme 14) If the connector is OK, replace the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000). If the connector is not OK, go to the next step.
  5. Inspect the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. (Scheme 12) If the connector is OK, go to the next step. If the connector is not OK, replace right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  6. Check the outside rear view mirror control ECU and the right hand outside rear view mirror wiring harness. (Scheme 15) If the wiring harness is OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-152222-S30771138142003012200000). If the wiring harness is not OK, repair or replace wiring harness or connector.

When the seat memory switch M1 and M2 is pressed, the memory seat ECU transmits the memorized mirror facing direction multiply to mirror ECU, then the mirror ECU drives the mirror motor. (Scheme 16)

  1. Check the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly lowermost and uppermost positions operation. (Scheme 17) If the operation is OK, go to the next step. If the operation is not OK, replace the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  2. Check the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly left-most and right-most positions operation. (Scheme 18) If the operation is OK, go to the next step. If the operation is not OK, replace the left hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  3. Check the outside rear view mirror control ECU and left hand outside rear view mirror wiring harness. (Scheme 19) If the continuity is OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-152222-S30771138142003012200000). If the continuity is not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
  4. Check the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly lowermost and uppermost positions operation. (Scheme 17) If the operation is OK, go to the next step. If the operation is not OK, replace the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  5. Check the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly left-most and right-most positions operation. (Scheme 20) If the operation is OK, go to the next step. If the operation is not OK, replace the right hand outside rear view mirror assembly. See «OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(ref-152222-S39432888152003012300000).
  6. Check the outside rear view mirror control ECU and right hand outside rear view mirror wiring harness. (Scheme 21) If the continuity is OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. See «COMPONENT LOCATIONS»(ref-152222-S30771138142003012200000). If the continuity is not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.

  1. Check fuses. Check if the ECU - B and ECU - ACC fuse are normal. If the fuses are OK, go to the next step. If the fuses are not OK, replace the fuse.
  2. Inspect the outside rear view mirror switch assembly. (Scheme 6) If the switch is OK, go to the next step. If the switch is not OK, replace the outside rear view mirror switch assembly.
  3. Check the mirror switch and mirror ECU wiring harness. (Scheme 23) If the connectors are OK, replace the outside rear view mirror control ECU assembly. If the connectors are not OK, repair or replace the wiring harness or connector.
