RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

Note. The hand-held tester has a Snapshot function which records the monitored data. Refer to the hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

Hook up the hand-held tester to the DLC3. (Scheme 2) Monitor the ECU data by following the prompts on the tester screen.

CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

The DTCs and freeze framed data will be erased by either action. Operate the OBD II scan tool (complying with SAE J1978) or the hand-held tester to erase the codes. See the OBD II scan tool's instruction book for operating instructions.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS

DTC Detection

This DTC is set when failure in the light sensor circuit is detected.

Suspected Area

  1. Automatic Light Control Sensor.
  2. Wiring Harness.
  3. Driver Side Junction Block Assembly.

Inspection Procedure

For circuit wiring diagram (Scheme 3)

  1. Check that the taillight and the headlight light up. If the lights light up, go to the next step. If the lights do not light up, see «TEST A: HEADLIGHT (LO BEAM, DISCHARGE) DOES NOT LIGHT UP»(ref-152492-S28217495702003020700000) or «TEST B: TAILLIGHT DOES NOT LIGHT UP»(ref-152492-S21445332742003020700000) .
  2. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item AUTO LIGHT SW in the DATA LIST and read it's value displayed on the hand-held tester. If the light control SW AUTO turns ON, go to the next step. If the light control SW except AUTO turns OFF, replace the headlight dimmer switch. See HEADLAMP DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300»(ref-152427) article.
  3. Check the automatic light control sensor. Check the continuity between terminal No. 3 (+) and body ground. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000) . See «AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR CONDITION»(ref-152492-S29747800062003021200000) table. Measure the voltage between terminals. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform appears between terminals. If the results are OK, go to «TEST A: HEADLIGHT (LO BEAM, DISCHARGE) DOES NOT LIGHT UP»(ref-152492-S28217495702003020700000) . If the results are not good, go to the next step.   4. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the automatic light control sensor. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminal No. B5-17 (CLTS) and body ground. If a bar appears, check and replace the multiplex network body computer. See «MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS - ES 300»(ref-152050) article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES. If a bar does not appear, go to the next step.
  5. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly automatic light control sensor. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminal No. B5-15 (CLTB) and body ground. If there is 10-14 volts, check and replace the multiplex network body computer. See «MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS - ES 300»(ref-152050) article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES. If there is not 10-14 volts, go to the next step.
  6. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly automatic light control sensor. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals No. B5-16 (CLTE) of instrument panel junction block and 3 (CLTE) of automatic light control sensor. If there is continuity, check and replace the multiplex network body computer. See «MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS - ES 300»(ref-152050) article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES. If there is not continuity, replace the automatic light control sensor. See INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in «INSTRUMENT PANEL - ES 300»(ref-152357) article.

TEST A: HEADLIGHT (LO BEAM, DISCHARGE) DOES NOT LIGHT UP

  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by using the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item HEAD LIGHT (HI) in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the headlight. If the headlight relay is ON in the tester and the headlight lights up, then check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not as specified, go to the next step.
  2. Inspect the headlight relay continuity. (Scheme 5) See «INSPECTING HEADLIGHT RELAY CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S42507860252003021200000) table. If the continuity is OK, go to the next step. If the continuity is not good, replace the headlight relay.   3. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and headlight relay and light control computer assembly. (Scheme 4) Disconnect the connector between the multiplex network body ECU and headlight control computer assembly. Check that the continuity of the vehicle side wiring harness between terminal No. 2F-3 (HRLY) and headlight relay and headlight control computer assembly. If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  4. Replace the discharge headlight bulb with a new one. Check that the light lights up. If the light lights, go to the next step. If the light does not light, replace the discharge headlight bulb.
  5. Replace the headlight control computer with a new one. Check that the light lights up. If the light lights, go to the next step. If the light does not light, replace the headlight light control computer. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item HEAD LIGHT SW in the DATA LIST and read it's value displayed on the hand-held tester. The results are OK if the light control SW HEAD turns ON and the light control SW except HEAD turns OFF. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, replace the headlight dimmer switch assembly. TEST B: TAILLIGHT DOES NOT LIGHT UP

Note. For taillight circuit diagram (Scheme 6)

  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by using the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item TAIL LIGHT in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the taillight. If the taillight relay is ON in the tester and the taillight lights up, then the results are OK. If the results are OK, go to step 3 . If the results are not good, go to the next step.
  2. See RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS in «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300»(ref-152427) article. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the taillight relay. If the continuity is not good, replace the taillight relay.
  3. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Check the taillight using the DATA LIST. See «TAILLIGHT DATA LIST»(ref-152492-S03390722672003021200000) table. IF the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly between the driver side junction block and taillight relay. If the results are not good, replace the headlight dimmer switch assembly. See HEADLAMP DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300»(ref-152427) article. TEST C: INITIAL SET CONTROL FUNCTION DOES NOT OPERATE (WARNING LIGHT LIGHTS UP)

  1. Check the continuity between the vehicle side wiring harness between the headlight leveling ECU and headlight leveling motor. (Scheme 7) If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair or replace harness or connector.
  2. Check that the headlight unit (leveling motor) operates normally when lighting up the headlight with the engine running. If the results are OK, check and replace the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not good, replace the headlight unit (leveling motor).

TEST D: INITIAL SET CONTROL FUNCTION DOES NOT OPERATE (WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF)

  1. Check the initialize. Start the engine. Check that the initial set control function of both headlights operates. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, go to step 3.
  2. Check the headlight beam level control actuator resistance. (Scheme 7) Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 2 and 5. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). Check that the resistance exists between terminals. See «INSPECTING HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL ACTUATOR RESISTANCE»(ref-152492-S39687878062003021200000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the headlight unit. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not good, replace the headlight unit.   3. Check the continuity of the vehicle side wiring harness between the headlight leveling ECU and the headlight leveling motor. If there is continuity, check and replace the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.

TEST E: INITIAL SET CONTROL FUNCTION OPERATES, BUT HEADLIGHT AIMING DOES NOT OPERATE (WARNING LIGHT LIGHTS UP)

  1. Check the continuity of the vehicle side wiring harness between headlight leveling ECU and the headlight leveling motor. (Scheme 8) If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair and replace the harness or connector.
  2. Inspect the right rear height control sensor sub-assembly. Connect the 3 batteries (1.5 volts) in series. Connect the battery positive terminal to terminal SHB and the negative one to the terminal SHG to apply voltage of 4.5 volts between terminals SHB and SHG. (Scheme 9) While slowly moving he link up and down with the voltage being applied, check the voltage between the terminals SHRR and SHG. See «INSPECTING RH REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR TERMINALS SHRR & SHG VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S26535752182003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, check and replace the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the voltage is not good, replace the right rear height control sensor sub-assembly. TEST F: INITIAL SET CONTROL FUNCTION OPERATES, BUT HEADLIGHT AIMING DOES NOT OPERATE (WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF)

  1. Check initialize. Start the engine. Check that the initial set control function of both headlights operate. If the condition is: door lock to door unlock, go to the next step. If the condition is: IG switch ACC to OFF, go to step 3.
  2. Inspect the headlight beam level control actuator resistance. (Scheme 10) Check that there is continuity between terminals No. 2 and 5. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). Check that resistance exists between terminals, see «INSPECTING HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL ACTUATOR RESISTANCE»(ref-152492-S39687878062003021200000) table. If the resistance is OK, go to step 4. If the resistance is not good, replace the headlight beam level control actuator.
  3. Check the signal waveform. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform between the right headlight leveling ECU terminals No. 16 (RH1), 15 (RH2), 4 (RH3), 13 (RH4) and body ground. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform between left headlight leveling ECU terminals No. 3 (LH1), 2 (LH2), 5 (LH3), 14 (LH4) and body ground. Check the signal waveform 2. (Scheme 11) See «HEADLIGHT LEVELING ECU SIGNAL WAVEFORM 2»(ref-152492-S26948949842003021300000) table. If the results are OK, go to step 6. If the results are not good, go to the next step.   4. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 10 (HDLP) and 12 (E1) of the headlight leveling ECU. If the voltage is OK (below 1.5 volts), go to step 7. If the voltage is not good, go to the next step.
  5. Check the continuity between terminal No. 10 (HDLP) of the headlight leveling ECU and the multiplex network body computer. If there is continuity, replace the driver side junction block assembly. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  6. Inspect the damaged headlight unit. Inspect the headlight beam level control actuator resistance. Check that there is continuity between terminals No. 2 and 5. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). Check that resistance exists between terminals, see «INSPECTING HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL ACTUATOR RESISTANCE»(ref-152492-S39687878062003021200000) table. If the results are OK, replace the damaged headlight unit. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  7. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 23 (SHR) and 19 (SGR) of the headlight leveling ECU. If the results are OK, check and replace the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the results are not good, go to the next step.
  8. Inspect the right rear height control sensor sub-assembly. Connect the 3 batteries (1.5 volts) in series. Connect the battery positive terminal to terminal SHB and the negative one to the terminal SHG to apply voltage of 4.5 volts between terminals SHB and SHG. (Scheme 9) While slowly moving he link up and down with the voltage being applied, check the voltage between the terminals SHRR and SHG. See «INSPECTING RH REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR TERMINALS SHRR & SHG VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S26535752182003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step. If the voltage is not good, replace the right rear height control sensor sub-assembly. See «HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR»(ref-152492-S38694354942003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. Check the headlight leveling ECU assembly. Disconnect the connector of the headlight leveling ECU assembly. Check the continuity between terminals No. 6 (SSI) and 7 (SS2) of the vehicle side connector of the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). If there is continuity, check and replace the headlight leveling ECU assembly. See «HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY»(ref-152492-S08263040622003020700000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If there is not continuity, replace the sensor.

TEST G: LIGHT AUTO TURN OFF SYSTEM LIGHT DOES NOT OPERATE

  1. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item IG SW, ACC SW in the DATA LIST and read it's value displayed on the hand-held tester. If IG SW was selected, the OK results are: the IG key is in the ON or START position and the ignition switch turns ON and the IG key is in the OFF position and the ignition switch turns OFF. If ACC SW was selected, the OK results are: the IG key is in the ACC, ON or START position and the ignition switch turns ON and the IG key is in the OFF or ACC position and the ignition switch turns OFF. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the ignition or starter switch assembly. See IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - ES 300»(ref-152427) article.
  2. Read the value of the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item D DOR CTY SW in the DATA LIST and read it's value displayed on the hand-held tester. The results are OK when the driver's door is open and the door courtesy lamp turns ON and the driver's door is closed and the door courtesy lamp turns OFF. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, replace the front door courtesy lamp switch assembly.

TEST H: ROOM LAMP ASSEMBLY NO. 1 DOES NOT LIGHT UP

  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by using the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item ILLUMI OUTPUT in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the interior lamp. If the lamp SW ON is in tester and the lamp lights up, go to the next step. If the results are not good, go to step 11.
  2. Check the condition of the light when the room lamp assembly No. 1 does not light up. (Scheme 12) If the condition is: door lock to door unlock, go to the next step. If the condition is: IG switch ACC to OFF, go to step 10.
  3. Check which door lamp does not light up. If the driver side door lamp does not light, go to the next step. If the passenger side door lamp does not light, go to step 6. If the rear door lamp does not light, go to step 8.
  4. Check the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch assembly). Unlock the driver side door. Measure the voltage between terminal No. 16 (LSWD) of the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch) and 2 (GND). See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S29771633272003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step. If the voltage is not good, check and replace the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch assembly). See POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.   5. Check the right front door with motor lock assembly. Check the continuity between terminals No. 16 (LSWD) and 3 (KEYE) of the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S03044430302003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector. If the continuity is not good, replace the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch assembly).   6. Check the passenger door ECU (power window regulator switch assembly). Unlock the driver side door. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 16 (LSWD) of the passenger door ECU (power window regulator switch) and 2 (GND). See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S29771633272003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step. If the voltage is not good, check and replace the passenger door ECU (power window regulator switch assembly). See POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.
  7. Check the left front door with motor lock assembly. Check the continuity between terminas No. 16 (LSWD) and 3 (KEYE) of the passenger door ECU (power window regulator switch). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S03044430302003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector. If the continuity is not good, replace the passenger door ECU (power window regulator master assembly). See POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.
  8. Check the driver side junction block assembly. Check which door lamp does not light up. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals, when unlocking the door. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK SIGNAL WAVEFORM»(ref-152492-S33182143502003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, go to the next step.   9. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the door lock. Check the continuity between terminals, see «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK & DOOR LOCK CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S22539448322003021300000) table. If the results are OK, replace the door lock. See POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR (REAR DOOR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS. If the results are not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.   10. Check the driver side junction block assembly. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 2A-7 (ACC) and 2A-8 (GND) of the driver side junction block assembly. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINALS NO. 2A-7 & 2A-8 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S13712077682003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the voltage is not good, repair or replace the harness or connector between the IG switch and driver side junction block assembly.   11. Check the driver side junction block assembly (ILE). Measure the voltage between terminals when each lamp lights up. If the voltage is not good, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly.   12. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and lamp. Disconnect the connector of the multiplex network body ECU. Check the continuity between terminals. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK & LAMP CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S41556807912003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, go to the next step. If the continuity is not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.   13. Check the continuity between the terminals of the transponder key amplifier (key cylinder lamp assembly). If there is continuity, replace the room lamp assembly No. 1. See ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in «POWER MOON ROOF - ES 300»(ref-152535) article. If there is no continuity, replace the transponder key amplifier.

TEST I: ROOM LAMP ASSEMBLY DOES NOT GO OFF

  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item ILLUMI OUTPUT in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the interior lamp. If the lamp SW ON is in tester and the lamp lights up, go to the next step. If the results are not good, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly.
  2. Check the driver side junction block assembly. (Scheme 13) Measure the voltage between terminals when opening the left front door only. See «MEASURING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINAL B6-1 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S14242403182003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, go to the next step.   3. Inspect the driver side door front door courtesy lamp switch continuity. When the switch is operated, check that there is continuity between terminal No. 1 and body ground. The standard results are when the shaft is pressed (ON) there is not continuity and when the shaft is not pressed (OFF) there is continuity. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the front driver side door courtesy lamp switch assembly.
  4. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and front door courtesy lamp switch. Disconnect the connector of the multiplex network body ECU. Check the continuity between B6-1 (DCTY) and body ground. If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  5. Check the driver side junction block assembly. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals when opening the right front door only. See «MEASURING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINAL NO. B4-11 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S05176458132003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver junction block assembly.   6. Inspect the passenger side front door courtesy lamp switch continuity. Check that the continuity exists between terminal No. 1 and body ground when the switch is operated. The standard results are when the shaft is pressed (ON) there is no continuity and when the shaft is not pressed (OFF) there is continuity. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the passenger side front door courtesy lamp switch.
  7. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and front door courtesy lamp switch. Disconnect the connector of the multiplex network body computer. Check the continuity between terminal No. B4-11 (PCTY) and body ground. If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  8. Check the driver side junction block assembly. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals when opening the left rear door only. See «MEASURING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINAL NO. B4-14 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S31800779162003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly.   9. Inspect the right rear door courtesy lamp switch continuity. Check that the continuity exists between terminal No. 1 and body ground when the switch is operated. The standard results are when the shaft is pressed (ON) there is no continuity and when the shaft is not pressed (OFF) there is continuity. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, replace the right rear door courtesy lamp switch assembly.
  10. Check the harness and connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the right rear door courtesy lamp switch. Disconnect the connector of the multiplex network body ECU. Check the continuity between B4-14 (RRCY) and body ground. If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  11. Check the driver side junction block assembly. Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals when opening the right rear door only. See «MEASURING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINAL NO. B4-12 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S17856355882003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly.   12. Inspect the left rear door courtesy lamp switch continuity. Check that the continuity exists between terminal No. 1 and body ground when the switch is operated. The standard results are when the shaft is pressed (ON) there is no continuity and when the shaft is not pressed (OFF) there is continuity. If the results are OK, repair or replace the harness or connector between the driver side junction block assembly and courtesy lamp switch. If the results are not good, replace the left rear door courtesy lamp switch assembly.

TEST J: STEP LAMP ASSEMBLY DOES NOT LIGHT UP

  1. Perform the ACTIVE TEST by the hand-held tester. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch ON and push the hand-held tester main SW ON. Select the item STEP LIGHT in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the step light. It is OK when the step lamp lights up when the step light SW ON is in the tester. If the results are OK, go to the next step. If the results are not good, go to step 14.
  2. Check the step lamp that does not light up. (Scheme 14) If the step lamp does not light up when all the doors are closed and unlocked, go to the next step. If the step lamp does not light up when all the doors are opened, go to step 10. If the step lamp does not light up when the IG switch ON and the shift lever position P, go to step 12.
  3. Check the door locks. To check the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch), go to the next step. To check the passenger door ECU (power window regulator switch), go to step 6. To check the rear left and right doors, go to step 8.
  4. Check the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch). Unlock the driver side door. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 16 (LSWD) of the driver door ECU (power window regulator master switch) and 2 (GND). See «CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION»(ref-152492-S00924433792003020700000). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S29771633272003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step. If the voltage is not good, check and replace the power window regulator master switch.   5. Check the right front door with motor lock assembly. Check the continuity between terminals No. 16 (LSWP) and 3 (KEYE) of the power window master switch. See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S03044430302003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector. If the continuity is not good, replace the right front door with motor lock assembly.   6. Check the power window regulator switch assembly. Unlock the driver side door. Measure the voltage between terminals No. 16 (LSWP) of the power window regulator switch and 2 (GND). See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S29771633272003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step. If the voltage is not good, check and replace the power window regulator switch. See POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.
  7. Check the left front door with motor lock assembly. Check the continuity between terminals No. 16 (LSWD) and 3 (KEYE) of the power window regulator switch. See «INSPECTING DRIVER DOOR ECU CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S03044430302003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, repair or replace the harness or connector. If the continuity is not good, replace the left front door with motor lock assembly. See POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR (FRONT DOOR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS.
  8. Check the driver side junction block assembly (right and left rear door). Check which door lamp does not light up. Check that the signal waveform appears between each terminal of the driver side junction block assembly and body ground. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK SIGNAL WAVEFORM»(ref-152492-S33182143502003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, go to the next step.
  9. Check the harness and connector between driver side junction block assembly and door lock. Check the continuity between each terminal of the driver side junction block assembly and rear door lock. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK & DOOR LOCK CONTINUITY»(ref-152492-S22539448322003021300000) table. If the continuity is OK, replace the door lock. See POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR (REAR DOOR) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under «POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE»(ref-151739) article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS. If the continuity is not good, repair or replace the harness or connector.
  10. Check the driver side junction block assembly (courtesy switch signal). Check that the signal waveform appears between terminals No. B6-1 (PCTY), B4-11 (RRCY), B4-14 (RRCY) or B4-12 (RLCY) and 2 (GND) of the driver side junction block assembly. See «INSPECTING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK (COURTESY SWITCH SIGNAL) CONDITION»(ref-152492-S28919149872003021300000) table. If the results are OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the results are not good, go to the next step.   11. Inspect the courtesy lamp switch continuity. Check that the continuity exists between terminal No. 1 and body ground when the switch is operated. The standard results are when the shaft is pressed (ON) there is no continuity and when the shaft is not pressed (OFF) there is continuity. If the results are OK, repair or replace the harness or connector between the driver side junction block assembly and the courtesy lamp switch. If the results are not good, replace the courtesy lamp switch.
  12. Check the driver side junction block assembly (IG signal input). Measure the voltage between terminals No. 9 (SIG) and 2A-8 (GND) of the driver side junction block assembly. The standard result is when the IG switch is ON, there is 10-14 volts. If the result is OK, check and replace the driver side junction block assembly. If the result is not good, repair or replace the harness or connector between the IG switch and the driver side junction block assembly.
  13. Check the continuity between terminals of the front step lamp assembly. If there is continuity, go to the next step. If there is not continuity, replace the step lamp assembly.
  14. Check the driver side junction block assembly (step lamp assembly output). Measure the voltage between terminals No. B5-4 (FSPT) and 2A-8 (GND) of the driver side junction block assembly. See «MEASURING DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK TERMINALS NO. B5-4 & 2A-8 VOLTAGE»(ref-152492-S20760244992003021300000) table. If the voltage is OK, go to the next step.
