- CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS CHECK HINT: In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points for problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency, whether the problem occurred recently or has been occurring for a long time Where Whether the problem occurs at a specific location Under what conditions? Whether the doors were locked or unlocked, whether the power switch was on, whether the hybrid control system had started How did it happen? Problem symptoms* *: Be sure to ask the customer in detail about the following points concerning the vehicle operating conditions, environment and problem, and then check for DTCs. If the entry lock/unlock function does not operate for all doors. If the entry lock function does not operate. If the entry unlock function does not operate. If both the entry lock and unlock functions do not operate. If the wireless lock and unlock functions do not operate. If there is no power even when the power switch is pressed [does not turn on (ACC)]. If the hybrid control system does not start with the entry ignition function. If the wireless answer-back buzzer and outside warning buzzers do not sound. If the customer attempted to start the hybrid control system by touching the electrical key to the power switch and pressing the power switch. If the interior warning buzzers do not sound. Any other details concerning the problem. If it is thought that wave interference is likely, be sure to ask the customer in detail about the following points concerning the vehicle operating conditions, environment and problem. Specific locations where the system does not operate (such as near TV towers, large video displays, wireless garage door opener systems, wireless security cameras, home security systems, etc.). Specific times when the system does not operate: Whether or not symptoms occurred immediately after purchase or only recently. Whether or not the symptoms occurred when the key was near the vehicle (electrical key antenna). If the system does not operate only when near specific vehicles (there may be an effect from electric waves from the wireless systems of other vehicles). If the system operates intermittently. If the key is bundled together with other items. If the key is carried together with other electronic devices, such as cell phones, personal computers, portable music players, other electrical keys, etc. (keep the key at least 0.1 m (0.33 ft.) away from such items). Where the key is being kept when not in use: Whether or not the key being placed within 1 m (3.28 ft.) of items such as TVs, DVD recorders, induction cookers, rice cookers, dishwashers, modems, cell phones, personal computers, microwave ovens, desk or floor lamps, cordless telephones, etc. If there are electronic devices that transmit electric waves placed in the vehicle. When the key battery was last replaced (when the battery is low): The key battery can be checked using the "Key Low Battery" item in the Data List. Refer to «DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST»(ref-568598-S30271670392013072300000) . If the customer installed any optional components (theft deterrent devices, wireless fog lights, etc.) to the vehicle. - INSPECT BASIC OPERATION Inspect auxiliary battery voltage. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V (IG OFF) NOTE: If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the auxiliary battery before proceeding to the next step. Check for blown fuses, open or shorted wire harnesses, improperly connected connectors and other problems in areas that can be visually inspected. NEXT: Go to next step

- OPERATION DESCRIPTION Smart ignition function: When the key is in the detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal is depressed, the hybrid control system is started by pressing the power switch. When the key is in the detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal is not depressed, the power source mode is changed by pressing the power switch. The power source mode changes in the following order every time the power switch is pressed: off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off. After getting into the vehicle while carrying the key when the power switch is off, if the power switch is pressed while not depressing the brake pedal, the power source mode changes to ACC and the power switch indicator illuminates in amber. After getting into the vehicle while carrying the key when the power switch is off, if the brake pedal is depressed while park (P) is selected, the power switch indicator illuminates in green. The hybrid control system starts if the power switch is pressed when the power switch indicator is illuminated in green. Changing the power source mode when the key does not operate correctly due to wave interference or key battery depletion: Unlock the door using the built-in mechanical key and get into the vehicle while carrying the key. While depressing the brake pedal, hold the ornament side of the key against the power switch. When a buzzer sound is heard from the buzzer in the combination meter, release the brake pedal within 10 seconds. By pressing the power switch while not depressing the brake pedal, the power source mode changes in the following order every time the power switch is pressed: off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off. Starting the hybrid control system when the key does not operate correctly due to wave interference or key battery depletion: Unlock the door using the built-in mechanical key and get into the vehicle while carrying the key. While depressing the brake pedal with park (P) is selected, hold the ornament side of the key against the power switch. When a buzzer sound is heard from the buzzer in the combination meter and the power switch indicator illuminates in green, press the power switch within 10 seconds while keeping the brake pedal depressed to start the hybrid control system.
- CHECK SMART IGNITION FUNCTION Check the smart ignition function: Get into the vehicle while carrying the key with the power switch off. With park (P) is selected, check that the power switch indicator illuminates in green when the brake pedal is depressed. Then check that the hybrid control system starts when the power switch is pressed after the power switch indicator illuminates in green. While the brake pedal is released and the key is being carried, check that the power source mode changes in the following order when the power switch is pressed: off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off. HINT: When the power switch is pressed with the power switch on (IG) and park (P) not selected, the power source mode change to off. Check the smart ignition operation range for the front side. Place the key in either of the two locations making sure that the key is oriented as shown in the illustration, and then check that the hybrid control system can be started. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Inspection Point NOTE: Even if the key is in the vehicle interior key detection area, the key may not be properly detected if the key is on the instrument panel, in the glove box or on the floor. If the key is within 0.2 m (0.66 ft.) of the shift position, communication may not be possible. HINT: Perform this inspection for both inspection points. Check the smart ignition operation range for the rear side. Place the key in either of the two locations making sure that the key is oriented as shown in the illustration, and then check that the hybrid control system can be started. Blinking in amber (2 second intervals) The power management control ECU has an internal malfunction. The indicator starts blinking when the power management control ECU is determined to have an internal malfunction. The indicator stops blinking when the ECU returns to normal or 15 seconds elapse after blinking starts.

SMART ACCESS SYSTEM WITH PUSH-BUTTON START (FOR START FUNCTION)
DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
- DESCRIPTION Smart access system with push-button start (for start function) data and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) can be read through the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3) of the vehicle. When the system seems to be malfunctioning, use the Techstream to check for malfunctions and perform repairs.
- CHECK DLC3 Check the DLC3. Refer to «GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-568589-S28103458762013072300000) .
- INSPECT AUXILIARY BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the auxiliary battery voltage with the power switch off. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V (IG OFF) If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the auxiliary battery.
DTC CHECK / CLEAR
Note. If the Techstream is connected to the vehicle with the power switch off, the information stored in smart access system with push-button start related ECUs (the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly), power management control ECU and main body ECU) cannot be read. However, smart access system with push-button start DTCs and Data List information can be confirmed even if the power switch is off using the method below: Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins (the Techstream screen changes when communication begins). Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, select the vehicle type under manual mode, and then enter the following menus: for Power Source Control: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Trouble Codes. for Smart Access: Body Electrical / Smart Access / Trouble Codes.

DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST
- DATA LIST HINT: Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. NOTE: In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Trouble Codes. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream. - ACTIVE TEST HINT: Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relay, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Active Test. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.
