OVERVIEW

Some vehicles may be fitted with a 4 zone climate control system. In this case, the main 2 zone climate control system is supplemented by a rear 2 zone system. Vehicles fitted with 4 zone climate control can be identified by a third rotary control located on the rear of the floor console.

The rear climate control system is controlled by a module located beneath the front passenger seat and operates independently of the main climate control system.

The rear climate control system will only operate if the main climate control system is operational. Consequently the only communication between the front and rear systems is confirmation to the rear climate control system that the main climate control system is operational.

Refrigerant pipes run from the main climate control system to an evaporator located in the rear of the floor console. A magnetic valve is located in the feed pipe to stop the flow of refrigerant to the evaporator if the request for cold, de-humidified air is removed.

  1. Remove the rear passenger entertainment control panel assembly. Refer to «REAR PASSENGER ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL PANEL»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/communication-devices/#video-system) .
  2. Remove the rear auxiliary climate control assembly. Remove the 4 screws. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

INSTALLATION

  1. Install the rear auxiliary climate control assembly. Connect the 2 electrical connectors. Install the 4 screws.
  2. Install the rear passenger entertainment control panel assembly. Refer to «REAR PASSENGER ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL PANEL»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/communication-devices/#video-system) .

  2. Remove the floor console rear trim panel. Refer to «REAR PASSENGER ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL PANEL»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/communication-devices/#video-system) .
  3. Remove the footwell vent/duct blend door actuator link rod. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the footwell vent/duct blend door actuator. Remove the 2 screws.
  1. Install the footwell vent/duct blend door actuator. Install the 2 screws.
  2. Install the footwell vent/duct blend door actuator link rod. Connect the electrical connector.
  3. Install the floor console rear trim panel. Refer to «REAR PASSENGER ENTERTAINMENT CONTROL PANEL»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/communication-devices/#video-system) .

REMOVAL

WARNINGSince injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove the filler cap from the coolant expansion tank while the system is hot.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: «SPECIFICATIONS»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/charging-system/#charging-system-general-information__specifications) (Battery and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
  2. Evacuate the air conditioning (A/C) system. For additional information, refer to: «GENERAL PROCEDURES»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/ac-compressor/#climate-control-system-general-information) (Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging General Procedures).
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Reposition the exhaust center heat shield. Remove the 8 nuts.
  5. Clamp the auxiliary heater core coolant hoses. Clamp the hoses to minimize coolant loss.
  6. Disconnect the auxiliary heater core coolant hoses. Carefully release the 2 clips. Position a container to collect the fluid.
  7. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to: «Floor Console - Removal and Installation»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
  8. Disconnect the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing electrical connector.
  9. Remove the auxiliary heater core inlet and outlet pipe brackets. Remove the 2 screws.
  10. Undo and remove the heater core inlet and outlet pipe clamps. Position a container to collect the fluid. Position an absorbent cloth to collect fluid spillage. Disconnect the heater core inlet and outlet pipes. Remove and discard the two O-ring seals. Install blanking caps to the exposed ports.
  11. Disconnect the A/C pipes. Remove the 2 bolts. Discard the O-ring seals. Install blanking caps to the exposed ports.
  12. Remove the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing rear bolts. Remove the 2 bolts.
  13. Remove the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing front RH bolt.
  14. Remove the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing. Remove the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing front bolt.
  1. Install the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing. Install the 4 auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing bolts. Tighten to 4 Nm (3 lb.ft).
  2. Connect the A/C pipes. Remove the blanking caps from the ports. Lubricate and install the new O-rings. Install the 2 bolts and tighten to 2 Nm (1.5 lb.ft).
  3. Install the auxiliary heater core inlet and outlet pipe clamps. Remove the blanking caps from the ports. Lubricate and install the new O-ring seals. Connect the heater core inlet and outlet pipes. Remove the container. Remove the absorbent cloth.
  4. Install the auxiliary heater core inlet and outlet pipe brackets. Install the 2 screws.
  5. Connect the auxiliary heater core and evaporator core housing electrical connector.
  6. Install the floor console. For additional information, refer to: «Floor Console - Removal and Installation»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
  7. Connect the auxiliary heater core coolant hoses. Install the 2 clips. Remove the container.
  8. Remove the coolant hose clamps.
  9. Install the exhaust center heat shield. Reposition the exhaust center heat shield. Install the 8 nuts.
  10. Recharge the A/C system. For additional information, refer to: «GENERAL PROCEDURES»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/ac-compressor/#climate-control-system-general-information) .
  11. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: «SPECIFICATIONS»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/charging-system/#charging-system-general-information__specifications) .
  12. Check and top-up the coolant.
  13. Start and run the engine. Hold the engine speed at 2, 500 RPM for 30 seconds. Return the engine to idle for 30 seconds. Repeat the above procedure a further 4 times.
  14. Switch on the auxiliary heater. Set the heater controls to HOT. Make sure the auxiliary heater is emitting hot air.
  15. Switch the engine off and allow to cool.
  16. Check and top-up the coolant.

  2. Remove the floor console stowage compartment. Refer to «FLOOR CONSOLE STOWAGE COMPARTMENT»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
  3. Remove the LH blend door actuator link rod. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the LH auxiliary blend door actuator. Remove the 2 screws.

  2. Install the LH blend door actuator link rod. Connect the electrical connector.
  3. Install the floor console stowage compartment. Refer to «Floor Console Stowage Compartment»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
  4. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/charging-system/#charging-system-general-information__specifications) .

  2. Remove the floor console upper panel. For additional information, refer to: «FLOOR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL - REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .
  3. Reposition the transmission selector lever assembly for access. Remove the 3 nuts.
  4. Remove the transmission selector lever mounting plate. Remove the 4 nuts. Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
  5. Release the auxiliary climate control main wiring harness electrical connector from the wiring harness support bracket. Reposition the wiring harness.
  6. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector. Detach the wiring harness clip. Release the wiring harness clip.
  7. Remove the blower motor. Remove the 3 screws. Remove the wiring harness support bracket.
  1. Install the blower motor. Install the wiring harness support bracket. Install the 3 screws.
  2. Connect the blower motor electrical connector. Reposition the wiring harness. Secure the wiring harness clip.
  3. Attach the auxiliary climate control main wiring harness electrical connector to the wiring harness support bracket. Reposition the wiring harness.
  4. Install the transmission selector lever mounting plate. Secure the 2 wiring harness clips. Install the 4 nuts and tighten to 10 Nm (7 lb ft).
  5. Install the transmission selector lever. Install the 3 nuts and tighten to 10 Nm (7 lb ft).
  6. Install the floor console upper panel. For additional information, refer to: «FLOOR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL - REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/land-rover/range-rover/l322-2005-2009/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#instrument-panel-and-console) .

  2. Install the evaporator core access panel. Install the 4 screws. Install the 2 clips.

  2. Remove the floor console stowage compartment lid damper sleeve.
  3. Remove the register. Carefully release the 4 clips. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
