REMOVAL
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley. See «Crankshaft Pulley»(ref-522643-S17180273012013011500000) .
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal.
INSTALLATION
- Using the special tools, install the crankshaft front seal. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the crankshaft pulley. See «Crankshaft Pulley»(ref-522643-S17180273012013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .
- Partially install the crankshaft rear oil seal. Make sure the components are clean and dry. Carefully remove the transit sleeve, leaving the seal on the crankshaft.
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft rear oil seal. Tighten the special tool nuts evenly and progressively to fully install the seal.
- Install the torque converter flexplate. See «Flexplate»(ref-522643-S23453753722013011500000) .
- Check and top-up the engine oil.
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the fuel rail. Refer to «Fuel Rail»(ref-522645-S28755937902013011500000) .
- Remove the LH bank camshafts. See «Camshafts LH»(ref-522643-S06364043212013011500000) .
- Disconnect the LH catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard the 2 nuts.
- Disconnect the RH catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard the 2 nuts.
- Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor. Remove the screw. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 12 cylinder head bolts.
- With assistance remove the cylinder head. Clean the component mating faces.
- Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket. Clean the cylinder head locating dowels. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and cylinder block.
- Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard the 8 bolts. Remove the gasket/heat shield bolt. Discard the gasket/heat shield.

- Clean the component mating faces.
- Check cylinder head face for distortion, across the center and from corner to corner.
- For cylinder head face distortion data, refer to specifications. See «Specifications»(ref-522643-S33872837142013011500000) .
- Measure the cylinder head material. Check measurement from the centre of the exhaust dowel to the cylinder head face as shown. If the measurement is less than 51.88 mm the cylinder head requires replacement.
- Install the exhaust manifold. Clean the component mating faces. Install the gasket/heat shield and tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Install, and lightly tighten the bolts. Evenly and progressively, tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Install a new cylinder head gasket.
- With assistance install the cylinder head.
- Install the cylinder head bolts. Lubricate the new cylinder head bolt threads with clean engine oil. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft). Tighten the bolts to 35 Nm (26 lb.ft). Tighten the bolts 1 to 10, a further 90 degrees. Tighten the bolts 1 to 10, a further 90 degrees. Tighten the M8 bolts 11 and 12, to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Install the CMP sensor. Tighten the screw to 7 Nm. (5 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
- Position the RH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Clean the components. Tighten the new nuts to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Position the LH catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Clean the components. Tighten the new nuts to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Install the LH bank camshafts. See «Camshafts LH»(ref-522643-S06364043212013011500000) .
- Install the fuel rail. Refer to «Fuel Rail»(ref-522645-S28755937902013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
- Install the crankshaft sprocket key. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the crankshaft sprocket.
- Lock the LH secondary timing chain tensioner piston. Using 1 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston.
- Install the LH camshaft sprockets. Install the LH secondary timing chain tensioner and timing chain to the camshaft sprockets.
- Install the LH secondary timing chain tensioner bolts. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Tension the secondary timing chain. Remove the locking rod.
- Install the LH primary timing chain. Make sure the timing chain slack is on the tensioner side of the timing chain.
- Install the LH primary timing chain tensioner guides. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Install the LH primary timing chain tensioner. Using 3 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Remove the locking rod.
- Install the special tool to the LH exhaust camshaft sprocket. Tighten the intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft) then a further 90 degrees. Tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft) then a further 90 degrees.
- Install the LH VCT control solenoid housing. Install the new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb.ft). Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Lock the RH secondary timing chain tensioner piston. Using 1 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston.
- Install the RH camshaft sprockets. Install the RH secondary timing chain tensioner and the secondary timing chain to the camshaft sprockets.
- Install the RH secondary timing chain tensioner bolts. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Tension the secondary timing chain. Remove the locking rod.
- Install the RH primary timing chain. Make sure the timing chain slack is on the tensioner side of the timing chain.
- Install the RH primary timing chain tensioner guides. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Install the RH primary timing chain tensioner. Using 3 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Remove the locking rod.
- Install the special tool to the RH exhaust camshaft sprocket. Tighten the intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft) then a further 90 degrees. Tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft) then a further 90 degrees.
- Install the RH VCT control solenoid housing. Install the new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb.ft).
- Remove the special tool from the RH cylinder head.
- Remove the special tool from the LH cylinder head.
- Remove the crankshaft locking tool. Remove the screw.
- Rotate the crankshaft 2 complete turns in the clockwise direction.
- Install the special tools and check the engine timing. Reset the engine timing if it is not correct.
- Remove the special tools.
- Install the engine front cover. See «Engine Front Cover»(ref-522643-S02113130342013011500000) .
- Install the CKP sensor. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the bolt. Connect the electrical connector.
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

- Disconnect the A/C compressor low pressure line. Remove the bolt. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Release the A/C compressor low pressure line clamp. Remove the nut.
- Remove the ignition coil-on-plug. Refer to «Ignition Coil-On-Plug»(ref-522647-S02054349052013011500000) .
- Remove the remaining ignition coil-on-plugs.
- Disconnect the valve cover breather hose.
- Disconnect the variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Release the engine wiring harness. Release from the 4 clips.
- Remove the oil filler pipe. Release the clip.
- Remove the valve cover. Remove the 14 bolts.
- Remove and discard the valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Remove and discard the valve cover gasket.
- Remove the valve cover plug aperture seals.

- Install new valve cover plug aperture gaskets.
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Install new valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Install the valve cover. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the valve cover bolts. Install the valve cover bolts to their position previously noted. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Complete the tightening sequence as illustrated.
- Install the oil filler pipe. Secure with the clip.
- Attach the engine wiring harness.
- Connect the VCT oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Connect the valve cover breather hose.
- Install the ignition coil-on-plug. Refer to «Ignition Coil-On-Plug»(ref-522647-S02054349052013011500000) .
- Install the remaining coil-on-plugs.
- Connect the A/C compressor low pressure line. Install a new O-ring seal. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Secure the A/C compressor low pressure line clamp. Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to «Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging»(ref-522646-S33588730062013011500000) .
- Install the oil level indicator and tube. See «Oil Level Indicator and Tube»(ref-522643-S00083677992013011500000) .
- Install the intake air resonator. Refer to «Intake Air Resonator»(ref-522607-S24405156362013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

- Remove the valve cover plug aperture seals.
- Remove the PCV valve. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Install the PCV valve. Clean the component mating faces. Install new O-ring seals. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
- Install new valve cover plug aperture gaskets.
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Install new valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Install the valve cover. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the valve cover bolts to their position previously noted. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Complete the tightening sequence as illustrated.
- Install the brake vacuum pump bracket. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Secure the A/C line clip.
- Install the brake vacuum pump. Refer to «Brake Vacuum Pump - 4.2L/4.4L»(ref-522627-S39222284982013011500000) .
- Attach the engine wiring harness.
- Connect the VCT oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Connect the PCV line.
- Install the ignition coil-on-plug. Refer to «Ignition Coil-On-Plug»(ref-522647-S02054349052013011500000) .
- Install the remaining coil-on-plugs.
- Install the intake air resonator. Refer to «Intake Air Resonator»(ref-522607-S24405156362013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .
- Install the engine mount. Clean the component mating faces. Lower the engine onto the mount. Tighten the nut to 100 Nm (74 lb.ft). Tighten the bolts to 56 Nm (41 lb.ft).
- Install the engine compartment RH heat shield. Tighten the screws. Tighten the nuts.
- Install the engine undershield. Refer to «Engine Undershield»(ref-522604-S24326226122013011500000) .
- Install the cooling fan. Tighten the cooling fan to 65 Nm (48 lb.ft).
- Install the air intake resonator. Refer to «Intake Air Resonator»(ref-522607-S24405156362013011500000) .
- Install the coolant expansion tank. Refer to «Coolant Expansion Tank»(ref-522611-S14835446732013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .

- Raise and support the vehicle.

- Remove the torque converter flexplate. Remove the 8 bolts.

- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .

- Install the oil pump assembly. Install the new gasket. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the oil strainer pick-up assembly. Install the O-ring seal. Tighten the M6 bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Apply sealant to the M5 bolts. Tighten the M5 bolts to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
- Install the crankshaft sprocket. Install the crankshaft sprocket key.
- Install the LH primary timing chain. Make sure the timing chain slack is on the tensioner side of the timing chain.
- Install the LH primary timing chain tensioner guides. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Install the LH primary timing chain tensioner. Using 3 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Remove the locking rod.
- Install the RH primary timing chain. Make sure the timing chain slack is on the tensioner side of the timing chain.
- Install the RH primary timing chain tensioner guide. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Install the RH primary timing chain tensioner. Using 3 mm diameter metal rod, lock the timing chain tensioner piston. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Remove the locking rod.
- Remove the special tool from the RH cylinder head.
- Remove the special tool from the LH cylinder head.
- Install the oil pan. See «Oil Pan»(ref-522643-S07490520932013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

- Remove the oil filter housing. Remove the 3 bolts. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the engine oil temperature sensor.
- Remove the EOP sensor.
- Remove the auxiliary oil cooler thermostat. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Install the auxiliary oil cooler thermostat. Clean the component mating faces. Install a new O-ring seal. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the EOP sensor. Tighten the EOP sensor to 13 Nm (10 lb.ft).
- Install the engine oil temperature sensor. Tighten the engine oil temperature sensor to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Install the oil filter housing. Clean the component mating faces. Install a new O-ring seal. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Connect the oil cooler hose adapters. Clean the component mating faces. Install new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the engine oil filter. Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb.ft).
- Connect the EOP sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Install the radiator splash shield. Refer to «Radiator Splash Shield»(ref-522604-S29075290552013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .
- Check and top-up the engine oil.

- Remove the cooling fan drive hub bearing. Remove the 5 bolts.
- Release the accessory drive belt. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counter-clockwise.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner. Remove the bolt.
- Remove the A/C compressor. Remove the 3 bolts. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the cooling fan drive belt tensioner. Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the cylinder block coolant hose. Release the clip.
- Release the coolant manifold. Remove the 4 screws. Position the wiring harness bracket aside. Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Disconnect the coolant manifold rear hose. Rotate the coolant manifold. Release the clip.
- Remove the coolant manifold.
- Remove the coolant pump pulley. Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley. Remove the bolt. Repeat the above procedure for the remaining idler pulley.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Remove the 2 screws.
- Disconnect the battery positive cable. Release the cover. Remove the nut.
- Remove the generator. Remove the 3 bolts. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the generator mounting bracket. Remove the 4 bolts.
- Using the special tools, lock the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove and discard the crankshaft pulley bolt. Remove the special tools.
- Using the special tools, remove the crankshaft pulley. Collect the locking ring. Remove the special tools.
- Using the special tool, remove and discard the crankshaft front seal.
- Remove the RH ignition coil-on-plug cover. Release from the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
- Remove the ignition coil-on-plug. Remove the bolt. Remove and discard the seal.
- Remove the remaining ignition coil-on-plugs.
- Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) line.
- Disconnect the variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Release the engine wiring harness.
- Remove the RH valve cover. Remove the 14 bolts.
- Remove and discard the valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Remove and discard the valve cover gasket.
- Remove the valve cover plug aperture seals.
- Remove the LH ignition coil-on-plug cover. Release from the 2 clips.
- Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
- Remove the ignition coil-on-plug. Remove the bolt. Remove and discard the seal.
- Remove the remaining ignition coil-on-plugs.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube. Remove the nut. Remove and discard the seal.
- Disconnect the valve cover breather hose.
- Disconnect the variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Release the engine wiring harness. Release from the 4 clips.
- Remove the oil filler pipe. Release the clip.
- Remove the LH valve cover. Remove the 14 bolts.
- Remove and discard the valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Remove and discard the valve cover gasket.
- Remove the valve cover plug aperture seals.
- Release the engine wiring harness. Release the 2 clips. Remove the bolt.
- Remove the engine front cover extension housing. Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the engine front cover. Remove the 24 bolts. Remove and discard the gasket. Remove and discard the 3 O-ring seals.
- Remove the power steering pump and mounting bracket. Remove the 3 bolts.
- LH side: Release the wiring harness. Release the 3 clips.
- RH side: Release the wiring harness. Release the 3 clips.
- Remove the halfshaft support bearing housing. Remove the 4 bolts. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove the oil pan. Remove the 19 bolts. Carefully remove the sealant.

- Install the oil pan. Clean the component mating faces. Apply a bead of sealant, 3 mm diameter, to the area indicated. Install the bolts, but do not tighten fully at this stage.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Install the halfshaft support bearing housing. Install a new O-ring seal. Lubricate the O-ring seal with petroleum jelly. Tighten the bolts evenly to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- RH side: Attach the wiring harness. Secure the clips.
- LH side: Attach the wiring harness. Secure the clips.
- Install the power steering pump and bracket. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Install the engine front cover. Clean the component mating faces. Apply a bead of sealant 3 mm diameter, by 12 mm long, to the 8 places indicated. Install a new gasket. Install new O-ring seals.
- Install the engine front cover extension housing. Tighten the M6 bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Tighten the M8 bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Evenly and progressively tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft).
- Attach the engine wiring harness. Secure the clips. Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install new valve cover plug aperture gaskets.
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Install new valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Install the LH valve cover. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the valve cover bolts. Install the valve cover bolts to their position previously noted. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Complete the tightening sequence as illustrated.
- Install the oil filler pipe. Secure with the clip.
- Attach the engine wiring harness.
- Install the oil level indicator and tube. Install a new O-ring seal. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil. Tighten the nut to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
- Connect the valve cover breather hose.
- Connect the VCT oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Install the ignition coil-on-plug.
- Install the remaining coil-on-plugs.
- Install new valve cover plug aperture gaskets.
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Install new valve cover bolt O-ring seals.
- Install the RH valve cover. Clean the component mating faces.
- Install the valve cover bolts. Install the valve cover bolts to their position previously noted. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb.ft). Complete the tightening sequence as illustrated.
- Attach the engine wiring harness.
- Connect the VCT oil solenoid electrical connector.
- Connect the PCV line.
- Install the ignition coil-on-plug. Install a new seal. Tighten the bolt to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the remaining coil-on-plugs.
- Install the ignition coil-on-plug cover.
- Clean all the crankshaft pulley mating faces.
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft front seal. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil. Use the discarded crankshaft bolt with the special tool. Remove the special tools.
- Install the crankshaft pulley. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.
- Install the crankshaft pulley locking ring.
- Install, but do not tighten, the new crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Using the special tools, lock the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 380 Nm (280 lb.ft). Remove the special tools.
- Install the generator mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft).
- Install the generator. Tighten the 3 bolts to 48 Nm (35 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
- Connect the battery positive cable. Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Secure the cover.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Tighten the screws.
- Install the coolant pump pulley. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the coolant manifold. Clean the components. Install new O-ring seals. Connect the rear hose and secure with the clip. Connect the cylinder block hose and secure with the clip. Attach the wiring harness bracket. Tighten the screws to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Connect the remaining coolant hoses. Secure with the clips.
- Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
- Install the cooling fan drive belt tensioner. Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb.ft).
- Install the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Install the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the accessory drive belt tensioner. Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb.ft).
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Install the cooling fan belt tensioner. Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb.ft).
- Install the cooling fan drive hub bearing. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the cooling fan pulley. Tighten the bolts evenly to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Install the engine. See «Engine»(ref-522643-S40851610552013011500000) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601-S06524472732013011500000) .

- Using the special tools, install the crankshaft front seal. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil. Use the discarded crankshaft bolt with the special tool. Remove the special tools.
- Install the crankshaft pulley. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.
- Install the crankshaft pulley locking ring.
- Install, but do not tighten, the new crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Using the special tools, retain the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 380 Nm (280 lb.ft). Remove the special tools.
- Secure the generator mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft).
- Install the generator. Tighten the 3 bolts to 48 Nm (35 lb.ft). Connect the electrical connector.
- Connect the battery positive cable. Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Secure the cover.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Tighten the screws.
- Install the accessory drive belt idler pulleys. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Position the A/C compressor to the engine. If a new compressor is being installed, the required amount of refrigerant oil must be drained from it.
- Install the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Secure the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Connect the A/C clutch electrical connector.
- Connect the refrigerant lines. Clean the component mating faces. Install the new O-ring seals. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).
- Install the front wheel. Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (103 lb.ft).

- Install the coolant pump pulley. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft).

- Remove the cooling fan drive hub bearing. Remove the 5 bolts.
- Release the accessory drive belt. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counter-clockwise, using a 3/8 " drive wrench.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner. Remove the bolt.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley. Remove the bolt. Repeat the above procedure for the remaining idler pulley.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube. See «Oil Level Indicator and Tube»(ref-522643-S00083677992013011500000) .
- Remove the LH front wheel.
- Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Disconnect the A/C clutch electrical connector.
- Release the A/C compressor. Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the A/C compressor.
- Remove the engine compartment LH heat shield. Remove the 2 nuts. Remove the 2 screws.
- Disconnect the lower steering column from the steering gear. Note the fitted position. Align the steering wheel to straight ahead. Remove and discard the Torx bolt.
- Remove the LH front sidemember exhaust heat shield. Remove the 4 nuts.
- Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard the 8 bolts. Remove the gasket/heat shield retaining bolt. Discard the gasket/heat shield.
- Install the exhaust manifold. Clean the component mating faces. Install the gasket/heat shield and tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (7 lb.ft). Install, and lightly tighten the bolts. Evenly and progressively, tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft).
- Install the LH front sidemember exhaust heat shield. Tighten the nuts.
- Attach the lower steering column. Make sure that the steering gear tag is aligned correctly, as shown. Install a new Torx bolt and tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Install the engine compartment LH heat shield. Tighten the screws. Tighten the nuts.
- Position the A/C compressor to the engine. If a new compressor is being installed, the required amount of refrigerant oil must be drained from it.
- Install the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Secure the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft).
- Connect the A/C clutch electrical connector.

- Clean all the mating faces and reusable parts thoroughly and check for damage.
- Apply a 2 mm (0.08in) bead of sealant to the cylinder block in the area shown. Use WSS-M4G323-A4-RTV sealant.
- Apply a 1 mm (0.039in) bead of sealant to the cylinder block in the area shown. Use WSS-M4G323-A4-RTV sealant.
- Install the crankshaft main bearing carrier to the cylinder block. Stage 1: Bolts 21 to 32, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb.ft). Stage 2: Bolts 33 to 34, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb.ft). Stage 3: Bolts 1 to 10, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft). Stage 4: Bolts 11 to 20, tighten to 15 Nm (11 lb.ft). Stage 5: Bolts 1 to 10, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb.ft), then a further 135 degrees. Stage 6: Bolts 11 to 20, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft), then a further 150 degrees. Stage 7: Bolts 21 to 32, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft), then a further 90 degrees. Stage 8: Bolts 33 to 34, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft), then a further 150 degrees. Stage 9: Center punch each of the bolt heads to indicate it has been reused.
- Rotate the crankshaft to check correct operation.
- Remove excess sealant which may squeeze out at the front cover sealing surfaces.
- Install the baffle plate. Tighten the 6 bolts to 6 Nm (4 lb.ft).
- Using the special tool, position the crankshaft rear oil seal.
- Using the special tool, install the crankshaft rear oil seal.
- Remove the special tool.
- Install the torque converter flexplate. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the bolts evenly in 2 stages to the sequence shown. Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft). Tighten the bolts to 110 Nm (81 lb.ft).
- Install the special tool.
- Connect the battery positive cable and the switch lead to the starter motor solenoid. Connect the electrical connector. Connect the battery positive cable. Install the battery positive cable cover.
- Install the starter motor. Clean the component mating faces. Tighten the bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb.ft).
- Install the oil pump. See «Oil Pump»(ref-522643-S17775332282013011500000) or «Oil Pump»(ref-522644) .
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-522601) .

- Disconnect the battery positive cable from the junction box. Open the cover. Remove the nut.
- Release the battery positive cable from the battery compartment side wall. Remove the cover. Remove the nut.
- Remove the A/C compressor low-pressure refrigerant line. Remove the 2 bolts. Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Release the transmission fluid lines from the engine. Release from the clip.
- Using the special tool, disconnect the fuel line. Release the clip. Position an absorbent cloth to collect fluid spillage.
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum pipe.
- Release the purge valve assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector. Depress the quick release connector. Remove the bolt.
- Remove the brake vacuum pump. Release and disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the vacuum line. Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove the brake vacuum pump bracket. Remove the 3 bolts. Release the refrigerant line clip. Release the wiring harness clip.
- Disconnect the coolant hose from the coolant expansion tank. Release the clip and disconnect the hose.
- Disconnect the charge air cooler coolant hoses. Position an absorbent cloth to collect fluid spillage. Release the 2 clips. Repeat the above procedure for the RH side.
- Disconnect the coolant manifold to radiator hose. Remove the clip.
- Disconnect the thermostat housing to radiator hose. Release the clip.
- Disconnect the coolant manifold to coolant reservoir hose. Release the clip.
- Disconnect the 2 bulkhead to engine coolant hoses. Disconnect the quick release connectors.
- Install the special tools to the engine.
- Disconnect the power steering pump supply hose. Position a container to collect the fluid spillage. Release the clip.
- Disconnect the power steering pump high-pressure line. Remove and discard the 2 sealing washers.
- Release and reposition the power steering high-pressure pipe. Remove the nut.
- Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the engine oil pressure (EOP) sensor electrical connector.
- Release the oil filter housing. Remove the 3 bolts. Remove and discard the O-ring seal. Tie aside.
- With assistance, carefully remove the engine. Connect the lifting chains. Support the engine with the lifting equipment. Remove the front subframe mounting bolts. Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the rear of the front subframe. Lower engine and allow assembly to tilt rearwards. Lower the engine to the ground. Remove the engine lifting equipment.
- LH side: Remove the engine mount heat shield. Remove the 2 screws.
- LH side: Release the engine mount. Remove the bolt.
- Release the RH engine mount. Remove the nut. Lift engine clear of subframe.
- With assistance, remove the differential. Remove the 4 bolts.
