JACKING & HOISTING
| WARNING | DO NOT work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands. |
| CAUTION | Manufacturer does not recommend use of single or 2-post hoists with 4 adjustable support arms. The manufacturer does not consider these hoist designs safe for lifting vehicles. Vehicle can only be raised and supported by axles or frame. DO NOT position jack or safety stands under any part of the body or bumpers, radius arms, steering linkage, anti-roll bar, torsion rod, rear trailing links, or any engine or drive train component. Always check vehicle stability before beginning repairs. |
FLOOR JACK
When using a floor jack to raise vehicle, minimum capacity of floor jack must be at least 3300 lbs. When raising vehicle, position floor jack cup on differential housing of front or rear axle. Support vehicle with safety stands positioned on axle housing tube, under spring mount, next to shock mount. (Scheme 177)
HOIST
Manufacturer recommends using a drive-on type hoist which supports vehicle on drive wheels. If necessary to support vehicle in a wheel-free condition, use a drive-on hoist with wheel-free support system positioned under axle housings. (Scheme 177)

Transfer Case
Use Texaco Multi-Gear 75W/90R or oil meeting specification API GL5. See TRANSFER CASE FLUID CAPACITIES .
KICKDOWN
Kickdown is controlled by the Electronic Automatic Transmission (EAT) ECU.
STARTER INHIBITOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION PNP) SWITCH
In order to adjust the starter inhibitor switch it must be removed and installed. See STARTER INHIBITOR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
GEAR POSITION SWITCH
- Move the gear selector lever to position "P".
- Remove nut securing gear selector lever to automatic transmission selector shaft and release lever. (Scheme 178) Remove 2 bolts securing inhibitor switch to automatic transmission. Release connector from automatic transmission bracket. Release inhibitor switch from selector shaft. Disconnect switch connector and remove switch.
- Ensure "P" is selected by rotating selector shaft fully clockwise. Engage "N" by rotating selector shaft 2 detents counterclockwise. Position inhibitor switch to selector shaft, connect connector and secure connector to automatic transmission bracket. Engage switch to selector shaft, and install but do not tighten retaining bolts.
- Install Setting Tool LRT-44-011 to selector shaft. (Scheme 179) Insert setting pin into setting tool. Rotate switch until setting pin engages hole in switch and tighten bolts to 84 INCH lbs. (10 N.m). Remove Setting Tool LRT-44-011. Position gear selector lever to selector shaft and tighten nut to 19 Ft. Lbs. (26 N.m).
