LIFTING & JACKING
| WARNING | The jack provided with the vehicle is intended to be used in an emergency for changing a deflated tire. To avoid damage to the vehicle, never use the jack to raise the vehicle for any other purpose. |
| CAUTION | Do not allow lift adapters to contact the steering linkage, suspension arms, stabilizer bar, rear subframe stabilizer brackets or to compress the lower suspension arm stabilizer bar insulator. Damage to the suspension, exhaust and steering linkage components may occur if care is not exercised when positioning the lift adapters of 4 point lift prior to lifting the vehicle. Never use the differential housing as a lift point. Damage to the differential housing and cover may occur. When using a shop jack, a cushioned pad must be utilized to avoid body damage. |
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The following safety precautions must be observed when raising the vehicle to carry out service operations
- Never rely on a jack alone to support a vehicle.
- Always use suitable vehicle stands to provide rigid support.
- When working beneath a vehicle, whenever possible use a vehicle hoist instead of a jack and vehicle stands.
- Make sure that the vehicle is standing on firm, level ground before using a jack.
- Do not rely on the parking brake alone. Chock the wheels and put the automatic transmission in PARK position, if possible.
- Check that any lifting equipment used has adequate capacity for the load being lifted and is in correct working order.
LIFTING
Lifting and support locations are reinforced areas located below the body side members, behind each front wheel and in front of each rear wheel. (Scheme 5) Use these locations when lifting vehicle with a 4 point lift or to support vehicle when jacking.
Scheme 5
JACKING & SUPPORTING
| CAUTION | Do not attempt to raise the vehicle by lifting one front wheel. Do not position the jack pad on the aluminum suspension crossbeam. |
Front
To raise both front wheels, position the floor jack centrally under the front body crossmember. (Scheme 6) Raise the vehicle. Place suitable vehicle stands in position at the front vehicle support locations. (Scheme 5) Lower the vehicle onto the vehicle stands.
Scheme 6
Rear
To raise both rear wheels, position the floor jack centrally under the rear suspension subframe. (Scheme 7) Place a block of wood between the jack head and the subframe. Raise the vehicle. Place suitable vehicle stands in position at the rear vehicle support locations. Lower the vehicle onto the vehicle stands.
