Starters: Removal & Installation Jaguar XKR I

Removal & Installation

  1. Open engine compartment and fit paint protection covers. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove power steering rack for access. See POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING.
  3. Remove the protective boot form the starter motor battery cable terminal. Remove the retaining nut and remove the battery cable from the stater motor. (Scheme 2)
  4. Remove the protective boot from the starter motor solenoid terminal. Remove the retaining nut and remove the solenoid cable from the starter motor. (Scheme 3)
  5. Using a short 13 mm wrench or a Snap On half moon wrench (CMX1113), loosen but DO NOT remove upper starter motor mounting bolt. Remove lower starter motor mounting bolt. see scheme 11
  6. Using a 3/8" square drive 13 mm socket, extensions and universal joint, remove the upper starter motor mounting bolt. (Scheme 4) Remove starter motor from vehicle.
  7. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten starter motor bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-166974-S07098449422004100400000).
