TROUBLE SHOOTING

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION
Verify customer complaint by operating suspected system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. For mechanical damage, check for the following
- Starter motor. (Схема №11)
- Flywheel ring gear.
- Seized engine.
For electrical damage, check for the following
- Battery condition and state of charge.
- Starter motor.
- Fuse No. 5 of the Engine Management System (EMS) fuse box and fuse No. 3 of the engine compartment fuse box. See «FUSES & CIRCUIT BREAKERS»(ref-165714) article in ELECTRICAL.
- High power protection module. (Схема №7)
- Starter Relay. (Схема №6)
- Ignition Switch. (Схема №9)
- Body Processor Module (BPM) and Engine Control Module (ECM). (Схема №5)
- Inspect for loose or corroded connection, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for broken or partially broken wires inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected.
- Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed.
If a fault is found, repair as necessary. If no fault is found during a preliminary inspection, see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM for additional information.
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
Note. If a DTC cannot be cleared, then there is a permanent fault present that flags again as soon as it is cleared. The exception to this is DTC P1260, which will only clear following an ignition OFF/ON cycle after rectification.
Before performing any repairs, ensure Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are not set. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If any DTCs are present, diagnose accordingly. If no DTCs are present, go to SYSTEM TEST .
SYSTEM TEST
| CAUTION | To prevent damaging wiring harness connector terminals, use adaptor kit, part number 3548-1358-00 when probing connectors to take measurements. |
Note. When performing electrical voltage or resistance tests, always use a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) accurate to 3 decimal places, and with an up-to-date calibration certificate. When testing resistance, always take the resistance of the DVOM leads into account.
