Common rail diesel
The common rail system differs from conventional diesel systems in that it supplies very high pressure (200 to 1,650 bar [2,900 to 23,931 lb/in 2 ]) fuel to a rail using an engine-driven pump, then delivers the fuel directly into the cylinders through electronically controlled injectors. Each injector is calibrated and given it's own unique identification number. This number is central to the correct function of the system, as it is used to configure the injector to the engine control module (ECM).
The system pressure is controlled electronically according to the prevailing working conditions of the engine, this information being passed to the ECM from the sensors in the system.

Stage 4 emissions
There have been some changes to comply with stage four emissions requirements, including the introduction of an electronically-operated turbocharger, and a revised exhaust gas recirculation valve, both of which are referenced in this information.
