Passport, Rodeo & Rodeo Sport (2.2L Engine)
- Disconnect battery cables. Disconnect generator wiring harness connector terminal B+ (White wire) from generator. Set ammeter to 100 amp setting and connect between generator terminal B+ and generator connector terminal B+. (Scheme 12)
- Connect carbon pile tester to battery. (Scheme 12) Connect tachometer to engine. Connect oscilloscope to generator following manufacturer's instructions. Reconnect battery cables.
- Start engine and allow it to idle. Document generator current output at various engine speeds. Adjust carbon pile tester to demand maximum output from generator. See «GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-91530-S05554798962001032400000) table.
- Monitor waveforms on oscilloscope. Waveforms should vary between 5 to 7 amps. If minimum current is not output from generator or oscilloscope waveforms are irregular, overhaul or replace generator. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-91530-S41435430402001032400000).

Except Passport, Rodeo & Rodeo Sport (2.2L Engine)
- Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and generator connector terminal "L" (White/Blue wire on Passport, Rodeo and Rodeo Sport 3.2L; White/Green wire on Trooper and VehiCROSS). Also measure voltage at generator connector terminal "IG" (Black/Yellow wire, Trooper and VehiCROSS) or terminal "S" (Green/Yellow wire, Passport, Rodeo and Rodeo Sport 3.2L). If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, check for faulty circuit between generator connector and battery. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-91530-S33630450502001032400000) . Repair if necessary.
- Reconnect generator connector and start engine. Ensure ALL accessories and equipment are off. Use DVOM to measure battery voltage while engine is idling. If reading is greater than 16 volts, replace generator. Connect ammeter between output terminal wire and output terminal of generator. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-91530-S33630450502001032400000) . Turn on headlights and other accessories. Voltage must not drop below 13 volts. If voltage drops below specifications, replace generator.
Except Passport, Rodeo & Rodeo Sport 2.2L
Mount generator on test stand. Connect test stand wires to generator terminals "IG", "L" and "B" according to operator's manual. Perform generator output test and compare to specifications. (Scheme 13)- (Scheme 14). If generator output is not as specified, replace generator.

Note. One 10-ohm 3-watt resistor, one 0 to 300-ohm 12-watt variable resistor, two 12-volt batteries, and a DC voltmeter are required to perform this test.
- Perform voltage measurement V1. (Scheme 15) Voltage reading across BAT 1 terminals should be between 10-13 volts. If so, battery is normal.
- Perform voltage measurement V3. Voltage reading across both BAT 1 and BAT 2 terminals should be between 20-26 volts. If so, both batteries are normal.
- Gradually increase resistance of variable resistor from zero. Perform voltage measurement V2. (Scheme 15) At this time, voltage at V1 should be changing. If it is not, voltage regulator is faulty and must be replaced.
- Perform voltage measurement V4 (voltage across variable resistor center tap and terminal "E" with resistance held constant). Measured voltage should be between 14.1-14.7 volts. If not, IC regulator is defective and must be replaced.

Trooper & VehiCROSS
Using DVOM set to x100 ohm range, check for continuity between terminals "B" and "F". (Scheme 16) Reverse leads to terminals on DVOM. Continuity should only be indicated in one direction. If continuity is indicated in both directions or in neither direction, replace IC voltage regulator. See OVERHAUL.

STATOR COIL
- Using an ohmmeter, check continuity across stator coil leads. If continuity does not exist, replace stator coils. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-91530-S41435430402001032400000) .
- Measure resistance across stator coil. Reading should be about .07 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If reading is not as specified, replace stator. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-91530-S41435430402001032400000) .
- Connect ohmmeter between stator core and each stator coil lead. If continuity exists, replace stator coil. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-91530-S41435430402001032400000) .
