Generators & Regulators: Removal & Installation Infiniti FX45 I

Removal & Installation (FX35)

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove engine front undercover.
3. Remove generator and power steering drive belt.
4. Disconnect generator electrical connector.
5. Remove "B" terminal nut.
6. Remove harness clip and water hose bracket from generator. (Scheme 8)
7. On RWD models, remove oil pressure switch harness clip from generator stay.
8. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector. (Scheme 9)
9. On all models, remove generator stay mounting bolts and generator stay.
10. Remove generator mounting bolt.
11. Remove generator to the direction of underside of vehicle.
12. To install, reverse order of removal. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-166067-S06711700382004091000000).

Removal & Installation (FX45)

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove engine front undercover.
3. Remove air duct and mass air cleaner case assembly, if necessary.
4. Remove lower radiator shroud. While pressing left and right pawls in direction indicated by arrows, pull lower radiator shroud rearwards to remove. (Scheme 10)
5. Remove radiator shroud. (Scheme 11)
6. Remove generator, water pump and A/C compressor drive belt. See «DRIVE BELTS»(ref-166067-S22561779372004091300000).
7. Remove generator mounting bolts. (Scheme 12)
8. Disconnect generator electrical connectors. (Scheme 13)
9. Remove "B" terminal nut.
10. Remove generator ground harness mounting bolt.
11. Remove generator to the direction of underside of vehicle.
12. To install, reverse order of removal. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-166067-S06711700382004091000000).

1. Remove air duct and resonator (inlet).
2. With suitable wrench, and while securely holding the hexagonal part in pulley center of auto tenser, move wrench handle in the direction of arrow (loosening direction of tensioner) as shown.
3. Under above condition, insert a metal bar of approximate.24 in. (6 mm) in diameter (hexagonal bar wrench) through holding boss to lock auto tensioner pulley arm. Leave auto tensioner pulley arm locked until belt is installed again.
4. Remove generator, water pump and A/C compressor belt.
5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure belt is securely installed around all pulleys. Rotate crankshaft pulley several turns clockwise to equalize belt tension between pulleys. Ensure belt tension is within allowable working range, using indicator notch on auto tensioner. (Scheme 15)
