SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS
Symptom checks cannot be used properly unless the problem occurs while the vehicle is being tested. To reduce diagnostic time, ensure steps in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES and SELF-DIAGNOSTICS articles were performed before diagnosing a symptom. Symptoms available for diagnosis include the following
- Hard To Start Or Will Not Start
- Rough Idle Or Engine Stalls
- Engine Hesitates Or Accelerates Poorly
- Hard To Refuel/Overflowing Or Spit-Back While Refueling
INTERMITTENT PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS
Intermittent fault testing requires duplicating the circuit or component failure to identify the problem. These procedures may lead to computer setting a fault code which may help in diagnosis.
When monitoring voltage, ensure ignition switch is in ON position or engine operating. When monitoring circuit resistance, ensure ignition switch is in OFF position or negative battery cable is disconnected.
