General Description

The PCM controls the engine, in a normal way for starting and running, and starts communication with the Smart Key ECM, sending a PIN request to the Smart Key PCM and waiting for valid release message from it until the release time period has ended.

In case of Smart Key PCM immobilizer function is locked, the Smart Key PCM answer is the no release message. PCM enters in the locked state, which causes the activation of the immobilization actions of the engine.

In case of Smart Key PCM immobilizer function state is released, the Smart Key PCM answer is the release message, including the information Smart Key PCM in learnt mode and the PIN code.

DTC Description

This DTC is set, after PCM sends wake-up signal, if response signal from Smart key PCM is abnormal structure or is not valid message during PCM communication

NOTE: PIN code is programmed in Smart key PCM, Transponder. If the Smart key PCM is not registered with PIN, key teaching process is not proceeded. Registering PIN is available after Smart Key PCM is neutralized. Neutralization of Engine PCM is available with GDS (Registering PIN code) If the virgin engine PCM is installed on vehicle, Engine PCM is automatically programmed PIN code by Smart Key PCM. Registering PIN code is only possible for virgin or neutralized status. All Learning procedure is able to do with a GDS in the vehicle's ignition key off state. Smart Key PCM Learning Before learning procedure for FOB Key, Smart Key PCM should be registered PIN code first. In case of replacing Smart Key PCM, All of the keys should be newly registered again. In case that Smart Key PCM receives 3 times with wrong PIN, It is not allowed for neutralization and Key Teaching for 1 hour. If the battery is discharged during neutralization or Teaching, Timer will start again from beginning. Therefore, it is avoidable to wait for 1 hour.

Verification of Vehicle Repair

After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.

  1. Connect GDS and check "No. of Key learnt, PCM status and Smartkey PCM" status.
  2. Select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)" mode and then clear DTC.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the enable condition and monitor the DTC on the GDS.
  4. Are any DTCs present? YES Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure. NO System is performing to specification at this time.

Information related immobilizer, that are classified as 2 (two) parts independently, is memorized in EEPROM. PCM check these 2 (two) information before proceeding immobilizer authentication. With synchronized both information, PCM starts immobilizer authentication procedure. If both information is not synchronized, PCM stops immobilizer authentication, Limp home function will not be activated, and memorizes DTC P1695. If DTC P1695 is retrieved again, after performing new key teaching procedure, PCM should be replaced with new one.

If key/password information in PCM is not matching or there is write error on EEPROM as hardware, DTC P1696 is set.

The smart key system is totally composed of a smart key module, a power distribute mode, an external receiver and a smart key holder. The SMK 2.5, the smartkey system which has not Fob holder, is embed with a Demodulator. so the two Immo coil lines are connected this SSB. Smart key units sends a certified signal to the PCM through this process and then takes the engine to start by receiving the permission signal of engine start.

This is special function that engine can be started for moving to an area where the key learning is processed with twice IG ON. This function is only performed in condition that Engine EMS, Smart key PCM, Transponder, are all virgin status.

Engine can be started by the sequence.

  1. Ignition ON with no cranking, Ignition OFF, Ignition ON with cranking within a time interval
  2. The following timing conditions have to be fulfilled for successful start: PCM, Smart key PCM, Transponder are all virgin status First Ignition ON more than 0.5 seconds and less than 1.5 seconds. Ignition OFF time is limited by the minimum of 0.2 seconds and the maximum of 1.5 seconds. Ignition ON. The number of engine starts by "twice ignition on" is limited.
