Generators & Regulators: Removal & Installation Hyundai Elantra III

Removal (Accent & Elantra)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect radiator fan and condenser fan connectors. Remove upper radiator mounting bolts. Loosen generator belt tension adjusting bolt, and remove mounting bolt.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right side undercover, if necessary. Disconnect generator connector. Disconnect generator connector and terminal "B" wire from generator. Remove belt and lower generator mounting bolt and nut. Lift radiator, and remove generator.

Installation (Accent & Elantra)

  1. Position generator, and insert lower support bolt. DO NOT install nut at this time. Push generator forward and determine how many 0.008" (0.2 mm) spacers need to be inserted between front leg of generator and front case at position "A". (Scheme 14)
  2. There should be enough spacers so that they do not fall out when released. Insert spacers and install nut. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-63381-S10291205362001020200000).

Removal & Installation (Santa Fe)

Removal and installation procedures are not available from manufacturer. As an aid to removal and installation (Scheme 15)and (Scheme 16). On 2.7L, the lower alternator mounting bolt on some models may have to be removed from the backside of the alternator. To remove the bolt it may be necessary to remove the axle halfshaft.

Removal & Installation (Sonata 2.4L & 2.5L)

Removal and installation procedures are not available from manufacturer. As an aid to removal and installation (Scheme 15)and (Scheme 16). On 2.5L, the lower alternator mounting bolt may have to be removed from the backside of the alternator. To remove the bolt, it may be necessary to remove the axle halfshaft.

Removal & Installation (Tiburon)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Loosen drive belt tension. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right side undercover. Disconnect generator connectors. Remove generator belt and 2 generator mounting bolts. Remove generator.
  2. To install, position generator, and insert lower support bolt. DO NOT install nut at this time. Push generator forward and determine how many 0.008" (0.2 mm) spacers need to be inserted between front leg of generator and front case at position "A". (Scheme 14)
  3. There should be enough spacers so that they do not fall out when released. Insert spacers and install nut. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-63381-S10291205362001020200000).
