Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove exhaust manifold outer heat shield, oxygen sensor and engine hanger (if equipped). Remove manifold bolts, manifold, gasket and manifold inner heat shield.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW gaskets and exhaust pipe-to-manifold nuts.
- Drain coolant and remove upper radiator hose. Remove breather hose (between air cleaner and rocker cover). Remove air intake hose.
- Remove vacuum hose, fuel hose and water hose. Remove spark plug wires. Remove ignition coil assembly. Remove intake plenum. Remove intake manifold.
- Remove heat shield and exhaust manifold assembly. Remove water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
- Remove upper and lower timing belt covers. Move timing belt tensioner pulley toward water pump and temporarily secure it. Remove timing belt. See «TIMING BELT R & I»(ref-49296-S34831634082001011500000).
- Remove valve cover. Remove cylinder head bolts in proper sequence using Wrench (09221-21001). (Scheme 1) Remove cylinder head gasket. Clean cylinder head and block mounting surfaces.

Scheme 1
- Install cylinder head using NEW gaskets. DO NOT apply sealant to head gasket. Tighten bolts to specification in proper sequence. (Scheme 2) See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-49296-S00591966752001011500000) table.
- Install timing belt in original location on camshaft sprocket. Ensure all timing marks are aligned, and adjust timing belt. See «TIMING BELT»(ref-49296-S31400176332001011500000). To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
