Removal Procedure

IMPORTANTAfter assembling the shift lock actuator, turn the ignition forward but do not start (auxiliary position) and attempt to pull the lever from PARK with and without the brake pedal depressed to verify there is no gear access without the brake pedal depressed.
IMPORTANTEnsure the key cannot be removed from the ignition unless both the shiftier is in PARK and the shift knob button has been depressed.
  1. Remove the shifter knob. Refer to «Floor Shift Control Knob Replacement»(ref-266879-S08161335762007100900000) .
  2. Remove the console upper trim plate. Refer to «Front Floor Upper Console Trim Plate Replacement (LHD w/Automatic Transmission)»(ref-266864-S37339270612007100900000) , «Front Floor Upper Console Trim Plate Replacement (LHD w/Manual Transmission)»(ref-266864-S06573614862007100900000) , «Front Floor Upper Console Trim Plate Replacement (RHD w/Automatic Transmission)»(ref-266864-S08624296272007100900000) or «Front Floor Upper Console Trim Plate Replacement (RHD w/Manual Transmission)»(ref-266864-S07510009932007100900000) .
  3. Disconnect the shift lock actuator (3) electrical connector.
  4. Shift assembly to the LOW position.
  5. Loosen and remove the screw at the rear of the shiftier assembly.
  6. Shift the assembly to the NEUTRAL position.
  7. Loosen and remove the top screw of the shift lock actuator through the lever slot.
  8. Pull lever to the DRIVE position and remove the shift lock actuator.

Installation Procedure

  1. In DRIVE position, depress the shift lock actuator button and realign into the shiftier lever.
  2. Push lever to NEUTRAL.
  3. Install the top screw through the lever slot. Tighten: Tighten the actuator screw to 1.65 N.m (15 lb in).
  4. Shift lever to LOW.
  5. Install the screw at the rear of the shiftier assembly. Tighten: Tighten the actuator screw to 1.65 N.m (15 lb in).
  6. Connect the electrical connector (3).
  7. Verify the shift lock actuator functions properly.
  8. Install the shifter knob and boot to the console upper trim plate.
  9. Install the shifter knob and console upper trim plate. Refer to «Floor Shift Control Knob Replacement»(ref-266879-S08161335762007100900000) .

The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components

  1. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
  2. The body control module (BCM)
  3. The powertrain control module (PCM)

The body control module (BCM) controls the voltage supply circuit of the shift lock control solenoid. The following conditions must be met before the BCM will supply battery voltage to the shift lock control solenoid

  1. The ignition is in the ON position.
  2. The PCM sends a class 2 message to the BCM indicating the transmission is in the PARK position.
  3. The PCM receives a brake applied input from the stop lamp switch and sends a class 2 message to the BCM indicating the brakes are applied.

With the above conditions met, the BCM supplies battery voltage to the shift lock control solenoid. Since the solenoid is permanently grounded, the solenoid energizes allowing the driver to move the shift lever out of the PARK position. When the brake pedal is not applied, the BCM turns OFF the controlled voltage output to the shift lock control solenoid, de-energizing the shift lock control solenoid. The de-energized solenoid mechanically locks the shift lever in the PARK position.
