Throttle Body Cleaning
| CAUTION | Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch to ON (II) or while the ignition switch is ON (II). If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated. |
Scheme 275
- Check for damage to the air cleaner. If the air cleaner is damaged, replace it (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(ref-336463-S05364324282009072700000) ).
- Remove the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-336463-S20687507372009072700000) ).
- Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate cleaner. NOTE: Remove the throttle body to clean it. Be careful not to pinch your fingers. To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A). Do not spray throttle plate and induction cleaner directly on the throttle body. Use Honda genuine throttle plate cleaner.
- Install the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-336463-S20687507372009072700000) ).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS (see «HDS CLEAR COMMAND»(ref-336452-S31054799792009072700000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-336473-S09468920992009072700000) ).
Scheme 276
- Disconnect the MAF sensor/IAT sensor 5P connector (A).
- Remove the bolts (B).
- Loosen the band (C), then remove the air cleaner housing (D).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
Scheme 277
- Open the air cleaner housing cover (A).
- Remove the air cleaner element (B) from the air cleaner housing (C).
- Check the air cleaner element for damage or clogging. If it is damaged or clogged, replace it. NOTE: Do not use compressed air to clean the air cleaner element.
- Clean and remove any debris from inside the air cleaner housing.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- If you did not replace the air cleaner element, this procedure is complete.
- If the maintenance minder required air cleaner element replacement, reset the maintenance minder (see «MAINTENANCE MINDER»(ref-336451-S08038361882009072700000) ).
- If you replace the air cleaner element, reset the PCM with the HDS, and do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-336473-S09468920992009072700000) ).

Scheme 279
- Remove the air cleaner (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-336463-S24328405052009072700000) ).
- Remove air intake duct B.
- Remove air intake duct A.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
Scheme 280
- Remove the engine cover (see step 1 on «REMOVAL»(ref-336461-S34992351682009072700000) ).
- Disconnect the IMT actuator 5P connector (A).
- Remove the bolts (B) and the IMT actuator (C).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (D).
Scheme 281
Scheme 282
- Remove the throttle cable cover (A).
- Check cable free play at the throttle linkage. Cable free play (A) should be (3/8-1/2 in.) 10-12 mm.
- If the free play is not within spec (3/8-1/2 in, 10-12 mm), loosen the locknut (B), turn the adjusting nut (C) until the free play is as specified, then retighten the locknut.
- With the cable properly adjusted, check the throttle link to be sure it opens fully when you push the accelerator pedal to the floor. Also check the throttle link to be sure it returns to the idle position whenever you release the accelerator pedal.

Scheme 285
- Remove the throttle cable cover (see «IMT ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-336463-S06404033242009072700000) ).
- Fully open the throttle valve, then remove the throttle cable (A) from the throttle link (B). NOTE: Do not get any silicone grease into the connectors or the switches.
- Remove the cable housing (C) from the cable bracket (D).
- Remove the throttle cable (A) from the accelerator pedal (B). NOTE: Do not get any silicone grease into the connectors or the switches.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Hold the cable, removing all slack from it.
- Set the cable on the bracket (A). Turn the adjusting nut (B) until its free play is 0 mm.
- Position the adjusting nut on the other side of the bracket, then tighten the locknut (C).
- Check the throttle cable free play (see step 2 on «IMT ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-336463-S06404033242009072700000) ).
- With the cable properly adjusted, check the throttle link to be sure it opens fully when you push the accelerator pedal to the floor. Also check the throttle link to be sure it returns whenever you release the accelerator pedal.
